Browse & Borrow and Sit & Surf are BACK!
Dear Beloved Community Members,
We are delighted to resume walk-in Browse & Borrow services to members beginning Monday, April 19th! In addition to Curbside Lending and Park & Surf, members are invited to browse the entire collection—from DVDs to children’s books! MCL members are invited to spend 20 minutes per day with the collection. Please note, masks must be worn properly at all times and contact tracing will be required regardless of vaccination status. Wednesdays: 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Garden Planning & Design
Wednesday, April 14th | 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
It is possible to create a carefree and beautiful landscape, naturally. Landscape design specialist Cheryl Joy Lipton will provide a primer on how to design outdoor spaces that support desired lifestyle features without compromising precious natural resources and animal habitats. With advanced degrees in both landscape architecture and ecology, the Chester-based Lipton will show participants how to plan a rewarding low-maintenance garden using native plants and sustainable gardening practices. Bring a pencil and paper to this free, virtual program. There will be time for Q&A during the presentation.

Community Poem 2021:
Mirrors & Portals
Monday, April 5th - Thursday, April 22nd
Add your voice to the annual community poem, our way of celebrating National Poetry Month. The lines needn't be in any order. Simply let the theme "Portals and Mirrors" guide your imagination and the words that flow from it. The lines will be knitted together into one collective creation and read at the Poetry Salon on Friday, April 30th.

Paperbag Poetry
Thursday, April 15th | 12:00 p.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Break out your favorite poems and break bread together for a half hour every noontime on Thursday during the month of April, National Poetry Month. Each week the group will explore a different theme. On April 15th the theme is poetry in music lyrics. Bring a poem or two to share if you wish or simply enjoy hearing some verse read by others.

Review of the 2021 NMJL

Calling all Manchester Community Library Mah Jongg Club Players. The 2021 National Mah Jongg League Cards are out and Lynn Kaplan is ready to review them with you. Catch up with each other and learn what you need to know about the 2021 NMJL Card. This meeting is held virtually and is suitable for those who already know how to play.

Plan Ahead
- Backyard Birds: Tim Duclos, Ecologist and Conservation Manager at Merck Forest and Farmland Center, will talk about identifying, observing, and supporting the incredible diversity of birds that frequent our backyards and offer ways to contribute your observations to science. Celebrate Earth Day with the Library by learning how to be a friend of our flying, feathered friends. Q&A to follow. Thursday, April 22nd at 7:00 p.m.

Crafty Craft Kit
Requests accepted through Thursday, April 15th
As an antidote to the dreaded "There's nothing to do!" we offer creativity in a bag in the form of Crafty Craft Kits. Each kit contains basics like paper, crayons or markers, air dry clay, a glue stick and a few other supplies. We invite kids to play with the contents, see what ideas come to mind, make something, and send a picture of it so we can display your crafty masterpieces.

Crafternoon

Fish through your odds and ends, your recycle bin and scrap material to find the perfect collage pieces to make your own Rain Fish, inspired by the Lois Ehlert story. Go look around your home, ask permission and gather what you can to make this found-object fish pic. This craft is rated NTM, for Not Too Messy.

Included in the Poetry Pack are several famous, family-friendly poems suitable for reading aloud, and some copyable poetry templates, so you can try writing some yourselves.
