AQIFGA

AQIFGA turns 15!

The 15th annual AQIFGA conference will be held on April 29, 30, and 31, 2021. Anglophone, Francophone, First Nations, and Inuit stakeholders from across the province will join together to explore a vast array of issues and subjects pertaining to adult education in Québec.

Although the majority of the workshops and activities are in French, there are English language and bilingual ones too!

Along with Marie-Ève Ste-Croix (provincial service RÉCIT FGA), we would like to invite you to “Les changements constructifs in our practice en 2020”. Come join in the discussion about the positive changes in teaching practices since March of 2020. This workshop is fully bilingual.

We are also exploring new tools developed by RÉCIT FAD in a workshop called “Rendre Moodle attrayant, c’est possible!” Guillaume Poulin (RÉCIT FGA regional service for Estrie) and Tobby Bédard (RÉCIT FGA regional service for Chaudière-Appalaches) will be transforming a classic Moodle class into a fully interactive and clickable interface, while Marc Gariépy mans the MS Teams chat. This workshop is in French.

Micheline Ammar (Équipe-choc Pedagogical) will also be giving two workshops at the AQIFGA Conference on Friday, April 31, 2021.

Les Après-cours FGA

EPC APC: Zoom Fatigue

The third Anglophone community Après-cours featured Jewel Perlin, Ph.D, who led a workshop entitled “How to Combat Screen Fatigue”. Dr. Perlin is a Montréal psychologist dividing her time among clinical practice at Concordia University, training and supervision, facilitating workshops, as well as regularly appearing on local television as a psychological expert.

We happily welcomed well over 60 participants to listen to Dr. Perlin’s advice and tips. You can watch the recording on the Après-cours website

Upcoming APC
The next Anglophone community Après-cours on workplace ergonomics will be on April 22, 2021 from 12 PM to 1 PM and focus on ergonomics.

PodGA: The Engagement Podcast

We contributed to the second PodGA podcast with a segment in English on student engagement through video conferencing etiquette. Skip to 40:09 to hear Avi and Marc talk about strategies to help keep students on task.

The podcast is available on the Après-cours website, on Spotify, and on Apple Podcasts.

Project RISE update

Two of the RÉCIT Project RISE teams are working on choice boards. A choice board allows adult learners to pick from a variety of assignments and activities while completing course objectives. It was a priority for both teams to design choice boards with accessibility in mind from the start.

An accessible resource is designed to be equitable for all learners. Like a wheelchair ramp, accommodations for accessibility are available to all learners, whether the accommodations are needed or not. Here are some examples of accessible elements from the RÉCIT Project RISE choice boards:

  • There are a combination of symbols and distinct colours representing the different tasks to help colorblind adult learners.

  • The choice boards employ a responsive design. They work equally well on phones, tablets, and computers.

  • The text size is always 14 or larger and in a sans-serif font. This helps dyslexic and vision impaired adult learners.

  • The boards are clutter-free and minimalist as possible.

  • Incorporates “ALT tags” for screen readers, so each image is visually described, if needed.

When you make accessibility a priority, the results are beneficial for everyone! Stay tuned to this newsletter for more news about our upcoming RÉCIT Project RISE choice boards for Social Integration and CCBE Literacy.
