North News

Greetings North Families,

We had a fantastic Spirit Week with students and staff participating in the dress-up days.  Our Penny Wars with South Jr. High raised $1012.82 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  Keep watching for photos of principals with their faces painted!
We strive to communicate with our families with conferences and our parent meetings.  Thank you to those who join us for those.

The rain should really make things clean and green!  Looking forward to a sunny weekend and some spring sports.

Respectfully,

Principal Brian Nutter
Assistant Principal William Sininger

With Math MCAs coming up the last week of April, you may be wondering what you can be doing at home to help your child do the best they can! In addition to helping them with their daily homework and ensuring they are working in ALEKS each week, there is also an online practice test they can take on this website: http://minnesota.pearsonaccessnext.com/item-samplers/math/ This link is for grades 3-8 and 11. If you have any questions, make sure to reach out to your child's math teacher for help via a Schoology message or their Google Meet Friday morning. Keep in mind there is also after school help from 5-8pm using the code MSMathHelp. Happy testing!

April 19th – 23rd – MCA Reading test administration, taken in English class

*All students will be testing on their Chromebook, please make sure they are fully charged prior to arriving to school each day.

If you are aware that your student has an appointment or needs to leave early, please contact the office as early as possible.  You can either leave a message on the attendance line or speak to one of the secretaries. It is preferable that we know earlier on so that we can get your student a reminder pass instead of notifying them last minute. This is preferable, of course, as it may not always be possible.  Thank you.

Also, there is an online option to submit any attendance absences.  Click the button below for instructions:

Please help keep the school community safe and have your student see the nurse if they are feeling unwell. Any illness, or anyone leaving the building due to illness, should be checked out by the nurse. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.

Please continue calling either the North office or health office if your children are ill. North's school nurses can be contacted at extensions 7020 and 7018.

Also, if you received notice from the health office regarding immunizations needed for school, please contact your child's health care provider and return the updated immunization record to North.

Thank you!

P-EBT Card for Families Receiving Free or
Reduced Meals

EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) is used in all states to issue food benefits (food stamps) to eligible recipients. P-EBT (Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer) expands this program during the pandemic to include all students eligible for free/reduced meals in school. Recipients are mailed an "EBT CARD" directly to their home address registered with the school district. P-EBT cards are like a bank ATM or debit card to receive and use their cash benefits. Please make sure family addresses are correct in Skyward as this is the information being used by the state to send the P-EBT cards to families

Families do not need to complete a P-EBT application this year, but they must be approved for free or reduced-price meals. Any family who thinks they might be eligible for free or reduced-price meals should submit an Application for Educational Benefits immediately so they can receive benefits as soon as possible.  Regardless of the approval date during the 2020-21 school year, all P-EBT recipients are eligible for benefits retroactive to September 2020.

The following documents are available on the MDE website and may be used as sample public outreach materials. Translations in Spanish, Somali, Hmong, Arabic and Karen will be available on the MDE website soon.

Questions? The P-EBT Hotline is available for families Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m. to answer questions about P-EBT benefits. They may call 651-431-4608 or 1-833-454-0153, or submit questions through the P-EBT Help Form which is available in multiple languages.

Virtual Spirit of the North meeting: April 27th at 5:30 pm.  Google Meet code: northparents

(Parents must use their child’s Chromebook or their child’s Google Apps account username and password in order to join the meeting. Using your child’s Chromebook to attend the virtual meeting is recommended and preferred).
Per our Student Handbook under Dress Code/ Personal Appearance: headgear including hats or head covering (hoodies) is not allowed in the building.

Aside from the safety and security concerns related to this policy, we would like to see more of the student than just their eyes. Thank you for your support in encouraging your student in this matter.
