Dear Parents,

Summer is just around the corner, and we know that most of you are starting your search for summer camps, classes, and weekly tutoring. Most families are now comfortable with virtual learning, which makes enrichment more convenient and accessible. However, how do we know that a virtual class is good?

Together with Math4Girls, we’ve compiled a list of 5 qualities to look for when searching for a virtual (Zoom) enrichment camp, class, or weekly lesson.

  1. Clear Rules - Even if the class is virtual, students still need a predictable structure. As such, rules are important. For example, turning on cameras that are focused on students’ faces ensure more engagement.

  2. Experienced Teachers - Tech-savvy teachers who know Zoom features and are excellent troubleshooters are a must. For instance, our teachers have been using this platform for at least a year - and can teach virtually in their sleep!

  3. Appropriate Subject - While not all sports classes are Zoom-appropriate, most academic subjects thrive in the virtual format. Math demonstrations come alive on interactive whiteboards, and students compose essays on Google Docs - in real time!

  4. Interactive and Engaging - Because of the lack of in-person supervision, teachers should work even harder to engage their students. Look for classes that incorporate fun, dynamic activities such as vocabulary games, public speeches, and math puzzles.

  5. Caring - Most importantly, teachers should care for their students, especially during these challenging times. We spend a lot of time checking in with each child and asking them how they are doing. Our classes will always be safe learning environments.

Looking forward to a wonderful summer!

Sincerely,
