Ways to Serve
by Mike Kennamer
The most popular training session I do is entitled, "16 Ways to Get Involved in Disaster Response Ministry". Last month we discussed how you can serve close to home. This month, we will talk about opportunities to serve at the MNA Disaster Response Warehouse in Rome, Georgia.
Serve at the Warehouse
The Charles H. Jones Family Disaster Response Center was established so that MNA Disaster Response would be able to store up supplies during the good times so that they could be quickly and efficiently deployed when disasters strike. Just as Joseph stored up grain in preparation for the coming famine, MNA Disaster Response stores up equipment and supplies for upcoming disasters. In 2020, the warehouse sent out more than $75,000 worth of consumable supplies, along with many returnable items such as bunkhouses, generators, and chainsaws. More than $232,000 worth of equipment and supplies were donated last year.
When supplies come into the warehouse, they are checked by volunteers and inventoried by the warehouse manager to assure that they are ready for deployment at a moment's notice.
The easiest way to get involved at the warehouse is to attend the Second Saturday work days, which occur on the second Saturday of every month.
Another way to help is to join a ministry team at the warehouse. We are currently looking for people who would be willing to:
- help with lawn maintenance
- maintain small engines
- clean the warehouse
If you have not yet visited the warehouse, check out the website at mnawarehouse.com Willing to volunteer? Contact me and let's discuss.
