APRIL 2021 NEWSLETTER
Alabama Tornado Update - Immediately after tornadoes hit the TAG Region on March 25, we were on the phones checking on our friends at churches in the impacted areas. On March 26, Mike Kennamer delivered tarps and chainsaws to Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Birmingham (upper left) and then, along with his son, Cody, delivered supplies to Brent Presbyterian Church in Brent, AL. The following week, Mike Kennamer and Keith Perry returned to Brent to help build Sheds of Hope on Friday and helped with clearing and removing trees on Saturday. The work continues at Brent.

The next work day at Brent is Saturday, May 1. If you are interested in helping serve those impacted by the tornado at Brent, please contact Mike Kennamer.

Quick Notes

  • Lawn Care Volunteers Needed - Would you like to serve at the warehouse by helping to keep the lawn looking good? We are looking for a few people that would be willing to volunteer to help keep the lawn maintained by mowing and trimming the grass. If you are interested in learning more, contact Mike. Lawn care not your thing? Let's talk about how you can serve.
  • South Alabama Visit - We are scheduled to be in south Alabama between May 12 - 16 to meet with churches to discuss the ministry. If you are in south Alabama and would like to have a conversation about the ministry please let us know. Just reach out to Mike to arrange a meeting.
  • Skid Steer Loader Training - A number of people have inquired about skid steer loader training. If you are interested in participating in a training session, please email Mike. These can be taught at our warehouse and training center in Rome or, if there are enough interested, can be taught at your church.
  • COVID-19 Funeral Reimbursements - FEMA has asked us to refer to them people who have had a family member die due to COVID-19 so that they can apply for possible reimbursement for funeral and burial expenses. Please contact Mike if you know of anyone who could benefit from this.

Ways to Serve
by Mike Kennamer

The most popular training session I do is entitled, "16 Ways to Get Involved in Disaster Response Ministry". Last month we discussed how you can serve close to home. This month, we will talk about opportunities to serve at the MNA Disaster Response Warehouse in Rome, Georgia.

Serve at the Warehouse

The Charles H. Jones Family Disaster Response Center was established so that MNA Disaster Response would be able to store up supplies during the good times so that they could be quickly and efficiently deployed when disasters strike. Just as Joseph stored up grain in preparation for the coming famine, MNA Disaster Response stores up equipment and supplies for upcoming disasters. In 2020, the warehouse sent out more than $75,000 worth of consumable supplies, along with many returnable items such as bunkhouses, generators, and chainsaws. More than $232,000 worth of equipment and supplies were donated last year.

When supplies come into the warehouse, they are checked by volunteers and inventoried by the warehouse manager to assure that they are ready for deployment at a moment's notice.

The easiest way to get involved at the warehouse is to attend the Second Saturday work days, which occur on the second Saturday of every month.

Another way to help is to join a ministry team at the warehouse. We are currently looking for people who would be willing to:

  • help with lawn maintenance
  • maintain small engines
  • clean the warehouse

If you have not yet visited the warehouse, check out the website at mnawarehouse.com Willing to volunteer?  Contact me and let's discuss.

Participate in our Adopt a Day Campaign - Help us to support this ministry by participating in our Adopt A Day campaign. Please consider adopting a day that is special to you (birthday, anniversary, etc.). It's easy:
  1. Select your day.
  2. Commit to praying for the ministry on that day.
  3. As God provides, donate funds to help support the ministry for that day. It takes about $100 per day to sustain this ministry.
Email Mike Kennamer to let him know what day you are adopting so he can send you a refrigerator magnet.
