Texas House Passes 3 of Representative Murr's Bills
On April 1, 2021 my first bill of the legislative session was voted out of the House unanimously! House Bill 365 extends liability protections in the Farm Animal Liability Act (FALA) to include routine farm or ranch management activities practiced by ranchers and ranch hands. I’m looking forward to continuing to work with my colleagues to protect ranchers and farmers across Texas.

Today, House Bill 317, the Texas Living Organ Donor,  was also unanimously passed out of the House. This legislation protects living organ donors from being discriminated against by insurance companies through increased premiums or denials of coverage based solely on their status as a living donor.  Thank you Kent Bressler of Kerrville, who first approached me about filing a bill that would allow insurance protections for living organ donors.

Along with HB 317, House Bill 2431 was also unanimously passed out of the Texas House. This legislation designates a portion of State Highway 173 in Bandera County as the "Master Sergeant Rodney Lee Buentello Memorial Highway". On June 8, 2016, Master Sergeant Rodney Buentello was spending an afternoon with his family at Bandera City Park when he saw two teenagers being swept into the current of the nearby dam. In his final act of heroism, he jumped into the rushing waters, saving the lives of the two teenagers but ultimately sacrificing his own.  We sought to memorialize Master Sergeant Buentello's heroic sacrific and I am proud my fellow House members took action to recognize him today.

All three of these bills - House Bills 317, 365, and 2431 now head to the Senate Chamber for consideration.

Rapid COVID-19 Test Available for Summer Camps

Last summer, state-licensed camps took an economic hit due to the impacts of the pandemic. This past week, Governor Abbott announced that the State will provide licensed summer camps with COVID-19 tests. The tests will be administered to staff and campers who volunteer to participate.

I represent 26 state-licensed camps in the Texas Hill Country, South Texas and West Texas, and I am proud of the necessary steps taken to ensure that our camps can safely resume their activities to benefit our youth!

Youth summer camps that are licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services and wish to participate in the program can apply here.
COVID-19 Vaccines Available for All Adult Texans
Starting on March 29, everyone age 16 and older is now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine in Texas. Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) has directed providers to continue to prioritize the older and most vulnerable Texans when scheduling vaccine appointments.

DSHS launched a website to allow people to register for a shot through some public health providers. Texans can now enroll in the Texas Public Health Vaccine Scheduler to identify upcoming vaccine clinics hosted by DSHS or a participating local health department and be notified when new clinics and appointments become available. The website can be accessed here.

If you know someone who is eligible for a vaccine but does not have internet access, please let them know they can call (833) 832-7067 for referral to a local vaccine provider. The Call center support is available from 7am-7pm, 7 days a week.

Currently, you can also continue to find additional providers and information through the DSHS Vaccine Information page here.
REMINDER
The grace period for expired Texas driver licenses and ID cards ends on April 14, 2021 (next week). The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) encourages customers who need to renew their licenses or ID cards to schedule an appointment at their local driver license office. If your driver license has expired after April 15, 2021, you may request a temporary license until your appointment date.
