Sizing Down Your Fuselage for Increased Maneuverability

By media on Apr 09, 2021 10:31 am

Sometimes even the smallest change can make a large difference in your foil’s performance. Whether you're riding in waves or flat conditions, you can tailor your ride as you wish with F-One’s carbon fuselage collection.

Currently, there are three fuselage sizes in production that pair with the carbon Gravity and Phantom front wings (XS - 33cm, S - 37cm, L – 41cm). F-One has recommended specifications for which size fuselage goes with the corresponding front wing to give you the optimum performance:

  • Fuselage Carbon X-SHORT – 33cm – recommended for the Phantom 940* (coming soon)
  • Fuselage Carbon SHORT – 37cm – recommended for the Gravity Carbon 1200/1500 + Phantom Carbon 1080/1280/1480/1780 front wings
  • Fuselage Carbon LONG – 41cm length – recommended for the Gravity Carbon 1800/2200 wings

Now as a separate accessory part, you can also purchase the new X-Short carbon fuselage. This is a newly added size that can change the feeling of your current foil setup that uses the standard 'Short' model fuselage.

Shortening the rear fuselage makes the foil more pivotal and responsive. It brings the front wing closer to the rear wing, increasing maneuverability, responsiveness, and giving you that 'loose' feeling.

At 33cm in length the XS fuselage measures 4cm shorter than the 'Short' fuse. Billy Ackerman has been testing the Phantom 1080 and upcoming Phantom 940 front wing with a XS fuselage and has found it to be fantastic for both prone foilsurfing and wingfoiling.

As soon as I swapped to the XS fuse I felt like I could pump more efficiently and turn tighter. I love the snappy tacks and jibes I can achieve with a loose, playful feeling. With the XS, I can turn tighter on the wave in a more critical section with speed. From what I've experienced, at high speeds and in larger surf it can be a little too loose for my liking and a bit less stable than the 'Short' fuse but each fuselage has a time and place based on conditions. For me the XS fuselage is a must-have and its primarily what I use paired with the Carbon 275 rear stabilizer.

-- Billy Ackerman

The new X-Short fuselage is a great option for all carbon Phantom owners who want to make their foil a tad spicier with increased maneuverability and a more pivotal feeling.

New Gravity FCT Foil Series

By media on Apr 06, 2021 12:42 pm

The foils of the Gravity line are designed to provide a solid lift with a smooth take-off and great carving potential. Right in line with its best-selling carbon sibling, this new Gravity FCT (Foil Compression Technology) is affordable, durable and the ideal foil to get started and progress in wing foiling and surf foiling. Intuitive to use, a Gravity foil generates lift at low (and even very low) speed but does it in a smooth way so you can keep your balance easily. The wings are designed to be easy to roll and turn, so they can perform in the surf.

Available in two sizes (1800 or 2200), the Gravity's dimensions have been optimized to provide enough lift to get anyone flying. F-One made sure to keep the drag limited to maintain a thrilling feeling of glide. The span is generous, making it a very stable foil and the refined shape details including the arch curvature, the profile and the wing tips ensure it remains highly maneuverable.

The wing is covered using a thin but strong protective layer to safeguard it from scratches and dings. It is built in fiberglass around an injected foam core and fits on a streamlined, aluminum fuselage. The two connect via a large, solid plate at the front of the fuselage ensuring a very solid and stiff bond between the wing and the fuselage. The fuselage can be connected to the standard F-One aluminum mast of the desired length. The setup and disassembly are also super easy which makes it very travel friendly.

The Gravity comes with the IC6 300 stab. Built using the IC6 technology, it's both strong and durable and offers easy take-off and good directional stability for a secure feel which is perfect when riding.

New F-One Phantom FCT

By media on Apr 05, 2021 12:21 pm

Using a refined design to achieve higher finesse, the Phantom foils glide faster and for longer. Connecting waves while surfing or downwinding thereby becomes much easier and more fun. However, connecting waves isn’t much fun if you can’t turn and this is why carving is also part of the DNA of the Phantom foils. By working on the lift distribution, arch shape and other details, F-One achieved a high-aspect, performance foil that can carve smooth curves on the waves and swells.

The Phantom FCT line features F-One's new Foil Compression Technology which offers impressive mechanical properties making it particularly suited for foils subjected to high stresses and bending loads.

It's recommended that the Phantom wings are paired with the R275 Surf stab which is specifically designed for carving and pumping. Made with RTM technology, this stabilizer offers better glide and a looser feel. Its flatter arch shape delivers high efficiency while pumping in order to connect more waves. Its shape and smaller area ensure sharp turns and more speed with a very loose feeling, closer to that of a shortboard. It’s the ideal match for the speed and glide of the Phantom wings.
