We have Great News...
About the Misto Family!
Mohamad Misto and his family have passed a major step in their dream to emigrate to Canada. The family had a virtual interview with Canadian officials in Lebanon this past Wednesday and were told at the conclusion that they meet the eligibility criteria for resettlement to Canada. This interview had been delayed for over a year because of COVID and the Beirut explosion.
The next step in their application process is Admissibility Screening. This has two parts: Medical Exams and Criminal Background Checks. The Mistos were told that they would be contacted within a couple of weeks about the medical exams. When they pass these screenings they will be issued Canadian visas and the International Organization for Migration will be requested to arrange their flight to Canada. It is expected that this will take a few months yet.
This progress would not have been possible without the financial support of many individuals from within the PCF, other churches and at large. Mohamad Misto has been very appreciative of this support. The economic situation in Lebanon continues to deteriorate. The Winnipeg River Refugee Initiative will meet soon to discuss continuing support for the family in Lebanon as well as WRRI’s obligation to provide support for the Misto’s first year here in Canada.
