The Artificial Rockpools along Banks Road

Researchers from Bournemouth University (BU) are working on two international projects within Poole Harbour.

Jessica Bone is working on the MARINEFF project which is enhancing marine infrastructure for marine life.
As part of the project BU have installed 50 artificial rockpools on the seawall at Sandbanks.

Jess Bone is a final year undergraduate student studying marine ecology and conservation at BU.
This spring, she will be taking part in the British Conference of Undergraduate Research (BCUR) to share her undergraduate research.

Dr Alice Hall is working on the 3DPARE project which has deployed 3D printed concrete artificial reef units in Poole Bay.

Actively involved in several international research projects associated with Poole Harbour, an internationally recognised protected site, Dr Alice Hall is a Marine Biologist and qualified European Scientific Diver, employed by Bournemouth University.

Her main areas of expertise are ecological engineering and biological monitoring. She has been involved in some of the largest ecological engineering projects in the UK to date and won the CIRIA Big Biodiversity Innovation Award in 2019.

She has recently been welcomed to the board of Poole Harbour Commissioners (PHC) to act as their new Environmental Commissioner. At 29 she is the youngest Commissioner to sit on the board in the Trust Port’s 125-year history.

The results from both projects will be showcased at this event.
