“Community building must become the heart of any school improvement effort” -Thomas Sergiovanni
Dear Families:
In the last few weeks, I’ve received emails about testing and Blended Learning and would like to use this space to address common questions about these two topics.
Blended Learning
-
Based on Friday’s data, we have less than twenty-five students who have opted into Blended. Once we are given the green light from the DOE, we will allow students to enter the building as early as Wednesday. We will send families an email with additional details.
-
There are still no final details or next steps about the change to 3-feet. I fear that this change will impact our current program, but our community’s safety is still a priority, and we do want to minimize the impact on students and their current teachers. I hope to have more details at our upcoming PTA meeting.
NYS Exams
-
As of Friday, approximately 80 students will participate in state examinations this year. Many are taking the exams for different reasons. Some kids are curious and want to wrap up the year the usual way, 6th-grade parents would like their children to experience the middle school testing format, and 7th grade still weigh the pros and cons of testing and HS admission. You have until the 16th to decide about ELA. If you want to read Mr. Krtizman’s email to 7th-grade families, please visit the Testing Corner and click on the Testing Information link.
-
We are beginning to create proctor schedules for testing. The state testing days might become fully remote for students not testing to adhere to social distancing guidelines and ensure testing accommodations are met for those who opted into testing. Doing so will also provide students at home with live classes. If these are regular blended days, we will have to cover students in the building, proctor students testing, and still teach kids at home. We do not have enough staff to do so!
PTA Meeting
- I hope to see you all at Wednesday’s PTA meeting at 5pm. Our guest speaker will be Dr. Robin Goodman. We sought Dr. Goodman out because we wanted to provide families with the tools to help their children cope during this challenging time and with the transition back to school in September.
