Crime Is Skyrocketing All Over America And Police Officers Are Committing Suicide

  • Crime rates are skyrocketing all over the nation, and demoralized police officers are committing suicide.
  • Are there bad police officers?  Of course there are, just like there are bad individuals in any profession.  But to demonize all police officers because of the actions of a few is something that no responsible journalist or politician should ever do.
  • It is inevitable that some officers will be pushed past their breaking points.
  • Sadly, life for police officers in America is only going to get rougher because crime rates are absolutely skyrocketing.

Sgt. Mike McGrew:
I was in the law enforcement profession as an officer, trainer and educator for over 31 years. During my time I have had friends wearing the badge, shot, stabbed, hit, bitten, spit upon and injured in countless ways. Many carry physical and emotional scars. It was rare when one was forced to use deadly force. When they did, it was clearly to save their life or the life of another and none rejoiced in the deed.

I, like so many others, have seen death and serious injury, neglect, at times finding the victims to be children or senior citizens and heartbreaking domestic violence. Now I see cities burning and officers under attack from the same people that tomorrow may call them for help, and yes, those wearing the badge, law enforcement, firefighters and EMTs will respond to the call without regard to color, gender, sexual preference or any other way our society has found to place us in different boxes.

Those with whom I served reflected not only our national diversity, but our nation’s finest qualities. Departments across the nation continually recruit hoping to attract outstanding personnel and I challenge those who feel the profession should change, change it from within, and join the profession.

The vast majority of those in the profession are outstanding professionals who, at the end of their shift, want to go home to their families.

31-Year Law enforcement officer (R) Sgt. Mike McGrew is available to speak from a position of personal experience about law enforcement deaths, the mental and emotional effects of the anti-police efforts and anything related to Law Enforcement.

* Statistics:

  • As of 03/04/2021, Law Enforcement Officer suicides alone are at 31 for this year. Last year there were 177 reported Officer suicides.
  • Another 67 Officers have died in the line of duty; bringing the overall total of lives lost to 98 for 2021.
  • Critical need for first responder mental & emotional health care.

Some western states have recently seen significantly dangerous situations for law enforcement officers as they work to serve and protect their communities.

According to Oregon’s Multnomah County Sheriff’s office, as reported by Oregon Live, a suspect fired at police officers after an all-night standoff, which resulted in the officers returning fire.

Another recent officer-involved shooting occurred in California, where a suspect fired upon officers on Tuesday, March 16, near the University of Southern California campus.  Exchange of gunfire resulted in serious injury for one officer and the death of the suspect.

Those instances, I think, represent the challenge that our officers are struggling and working through to overcome each day, which is dealing with dangerous and often times confusing and complex situations in which people will present threatening attacks and efforts towards them, and how do they overcome that?

How do they do that as peacefully and safely as possible, while still protecting themselves?

Further east, in Apache Junction, Arizona, a police officer is recovering and in stable condition after being shot after chasing a suspected stolen vehicle.

AZ Family.com reports that, according to Corporal Marshall Harshman with the Apache Junction Police Department, the situation unfolded when officers pursued a suspected stolen pickup truck just before 4pm on Tuesday, March 16.

According to preliminary data compiled by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF), as of December 31, 2020, 264 federal, state, military, tribal, and local law enforcement officers died in the line-of-duty in 2020, an increase of 96% from the 135 officers killed during the same period. In 2020, officer fatalities ranged from automobile crashes to heart attacks and from gunshots to being beaten to death. Of these tragic deaths, Covid-19 related fatalities were the single highest cause of officer line-of-duty deaths in 2020.
