We’re about to print Eye 101, so now
is a good time to renew or subscribe

Dear friends

We’re about to print Eye 101, which is good news for those of you who already subscribe.

But if you don’t, please act now – by midnight Friday 7 May 2021 – to take out a subscription and get Eye 101 delivered to your door in a sturdy package.

There have been some changes with international post – especially to the EU – due to a toxic mix of Brexit, customs data revisions and the global pandemic. Unfortunately, this means we will have to review all our prices later this year; this may be your last opportunity to get a subscription at the old price.

Eye 101 contains an eclectic mix of subject matter, including profiles of Anette Lenz, Mario Eskenazi, Jim Sutherland and the late Jacqueline Casey (1927-92). There is a feature about the way data visualisation became ‘the language of the pandemic’ and a look at the phenomenon of design book crowdfunding – plus an extra-long reviews section.

It’s easy to renew or subscribe online. Postage and sturdy packaging is included free of charge, and you will never miss another issue.

Steelworks employee, in a Management Today article about industry in Luxembourg, April 1984. Sayer used a long lens to take us deep inside the foundry.

Industrial light’ our Eye 96 feature about Philip Sayer’s photography for Management Today in the 1980s and 90s, is now online and free to read in full. Other articles include ‘Unity and justice and …’ from Eye 99, in which Jason Grant explains why he brought his New Anthems project from Brisbane to Berlin, and ‘Last man casting’, Ferdinand Ulrich’s Eye 98 article about Rainer Gerstenberg, who casts foundry type in Darmstadt.

Above: Christoph Niemann’s wordless book The Paper, featured in Books received no. 44.

The last ‘Books received’ on the Eye blog featured the photobook Africa State of Mind by Ekow Eshun; Modern Heraldry (Counter-Print); Abbatt Toys, Modern Toys for Modern Children (Design for Today) by Alan Powers; and The Paper by Christoph Niemann, designed by Ariane Spanier. Look out for a new blog post by Richard van der Laken of What Design Can Do.

It’s easy to subscribe or renew online. If you don’t want to buy online please email our subscriptions team, or call the subscription team on +44 1371 851885 (note that current distancing measures mean it may take a longer for your call to be answered).

Don’t forget to send your order before midnight on Friday 7 May 2021 to get your copy of Eye 101 as soon as possible after it leaves the printer.

Warmest regards from the Haggerston Riviera
