Message from the Pastor

During my devotional time this morning I read Ecclesiastes chapter 3, and it gave peace to my mind. I’d like to share some verses from that chapter with you:

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace...

What time is it now for you?

There are two words for time in ancient Greek: chronos and kairos. Chronos refers to measured, ticking, quantitative time. Kairos means moment, which is a qualitative concept. Whenever I wore thin clothes in cold weather as a teenager, my mom always said “Han, know the season so you won’t catch a cold.” Yes, knowing what to do according to the season (God’s kairos) is wisdom.

If you are living a time of crying, please know there is also a time to dance. If you have to give up something today, God will provide a time when you will find something, too. Together we are going through a time to refrain from embracing, but the time when we can embrace and hug each other again will come. Today I pray that we all have the wisdom to follow the order of time in the faith of God, who is the creator and supervisor of time.

The above words of wisdom about time are followed by these verses: “God made everything beautiful in its time…I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live.”

May you live the best day today, feeling happiness and doing good.

Maryanne's Take on the Bible Readings

Welcome Wellspring family to another week of Bible reading and study. Just as last week, we’ll be looking at a story from Jesus’ pre-resurrection ministry and a story of the disciples’ post-resurrection ministries. We might even have a gardening lesson. There’s a wide variety, let’s see what they say to us. We’re looking at: Psalm 22:25-31; John 15:1-8; Acts 8:26-40; 1 John 4:7-21.
