Larry Saunders Excellence in Teaching Award
The PTSA is currently accepting nominations for the Larry Saunders Excellence in Teaching Award. Larry Saunders was a math teacher at Grimsley 1968-1996 and his dedication and excellence in teaching were an inspiration to Grimsley students and faculty for many years.
Any student or parent can nominate a teacher by writing a letter of nomination outlining why this teacher should receive the award.
Criteria include:
- classroom teacher having taught a minimum of 5 years at GHS
- demands rigor and the highest possible level of academic achievement from all students
- demonstrates a keen knowledge of their subject matter
- is readily available to students
- demonstrates professionalism and a devotion to teaching
Nominations may be anonymous and should be submitted to Awards Chair, Laura Wallace, lwallace@gokeystone.com, by May 15. A PTSA committee will review all submissions and select the winner.

Remote AP and IB Students
If you are a remote student or you do not have a parking pass this year - we are encouraging, you to carpool or get dropped off for your AP & IB Exams. There is some extra parking available behind the cafeteria, but you will need to contact Mr. Ingram, http://ingrama2@gcsnc.com, to request a parking spot if you need one. Again - PLEASE carpool!!

NCCJ - STARR (Students Talking About Race and Racism) Program
Last year NCCJ started the STARR Youth Program and they are excited to continue the program this year. The program is open to rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors. High School Poet Laureate Virtual Reading and Recognition
The High School Poet Laureate Virtual Reading and Recognition will be held on May 19, at 6 pm. All are invited to attend this celebration of youth voices and poetry.

Photo packets for remote students are in the main office. Please call to make an appointment to pick them up; otherwise, they will go home on Yearbook Distribution Day, which will be the very end of May or first week of June.
Prom!
Grimsley is excited to announce that we will be hosting a Junior/Senior Prom for our students this year! All rules and regulations provided by the CDC and GCS Health Department will be followed and enforced. This event will be held outside, and masks will be required. More information about purchasing tickets and specific event details will be coming soon.

Important Update About Assignment Deadlines for 4th Quarter
Starting this quarter, ALL assignments must be submitted within 7 days! If the assignment is not submitted within 7 days, your teacher(s) may not accept the assignment or may give a late penalty for submitting the assignment late. Check with each of your teachers to find out about their late policy for fourth quarter!
Parents of AP students!!
Mr. Barnard has sent out several emails outlining the exam procedures this May including a required survey to complete if you wish to take your exam virtually. This was sent to each student's school email address and should have been communicated through their AP teacher via CANVAS and TEAMS. This information is also on the Grimsley website under the AP/IB Programs button at the bottom (center) of the home page. You can also find the exam schedule there for your convenience. ALL IB exams will take place on campus. They will be in-person, on paper.

Learning Hubs are BACK!!
We are pleased to announce that we are bringing back our learning hub for seniors. The learning hub will be open each evening from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm and on the weekends for seniors who need assistance in meeting graduation requirements and passing their classes. Meals and transportation will be provided to students who attend. We will have teachers and support staff in place to help you with your courses and answer any questions you have.
If you are interested in attending the learning hub, please get in touch with an administrator for details! In order to ensure that we have enough meals, you will need to register with an administrator!
Senior Survey
With graduation approaching, it is time to complete your senior survey. To do this, you need to go to Grimsley’s website and click the link at the bottom left side of the home page. This information is used for state reporting on our graduating class. The survey will take 5 minutes to complete.
Class of 2021 Signs
All Seniors will get a Class of 2021 Sign this year. We only received our partial order for the Cap & Gown pick up but will have the rest in soon. We will make an announcement with instructions for when you can pick up yours once the rest of the signs have arrived.
Best All-Around Male and Female Graduate
Each year, the senior class votes on the Best All-Around Male and Female of the class. It is the most prestigious award given at Senior Awards. It is a serious award and needs to be treated as such. Be thinking about your votes for the one male and one female who best represents Grimsley High School’s Class of 2021. There will be voting updates later.

Seniors, please make sure you are visiting the Grimsley Scholarship page via the Counseling link on the school website. New scholarships are being posted frequently.

There is no longer any ad space available in the yearbook.
