A Word from Council

Brandi ComstockAs this year winds down during these last six weeks of the school year, here is a quick list of things to do before the end of the year.
  1. Pick your gift! Fill out this quick poll regarding a gift from Council for your PTA to use at your school. 
  2. Elect your officers for the 2021-2022 school year. Send the names and contact information for your 2021-2022 officers to: Secretary@LWPTSA.net and to WSPTA via the memberplanet database.
  3. Approve a working budget with your membership so that your PTA can do business over the summer.
  4. Double check this report of PTAs with near-perfect attendance at Council Meetings. We will have a special treat for PTAs with perfect attendance at our virtual meetings this year. If your PTA is missing, email Secretary@LWPTSA.net.

Membership Meeting On Thursday 

Our May membership meeting will be held this Thursday, May 6 at 9:45AM. 

We will open the floor for nominations and hold elections for the positions of Secretary, Area VP Rose Hill, and Area VP Timberline for the 2021-2022 term. If you are interested or have questions about these roles, please contact Council President Brandi Comstock.

Lake Washington PTSA Council Scholarships

Lake Washington PTSA Council is pleased to announce the recipients of our 2021 Scholarships. With the support of our local PTSAs, our annual scholarship auction, partners like the Lake Washington Education Association, and private donors, we are able to award two $500 staff scholarships and fourteen $1250 student scholarships.

We had a tremendous pool of very talented and accomplished applicants this year and are honored to be a small part of this tremendous milestone in the lives of these exceptional students and educators.

The Journey to Becoming an Anti-Racist Family

Lewin Education and Consulting logoLWPTSA Council is hosting a two-part workshop with Lewin Education & Consulting on "The Journey to Becoming an Anti-Racist Family" on May 11 and 18. The journey is a long one and it's never too early to start the conversations of being anti-racist. As Angela Davis states: “In a racist society, it's not enough to be non-racist, we must be anti-racist.”  Please send questions to Irene Neumann and Hae Sue Park, Parent Ed Co-Chairs.

What I Wish Authors Knew and Readers Gained - Disability Representation in Children’s Literature


Join the Special Education Group for a presentation by Lei Wiley-Mydske on May 18. Lei Wiley-Mydske is the founder of Ed Wiley Autism Acceptance Lending Library and creator of Neurodivergent Narwhals. The mission of the Ed Wiley Autism Acceptance Library is to promote understanding, acceptance and inclusion for Autistic people.

Legislative Lunch and Learn

Lunch and LearnJoin us for a State Legislative Session wrap up at our last Lunch and Learn of the year on May 20 from 12-1pm. Representatives from the 1st, 45th, and 48th legislative districts are scheduled* to answer questions including:

Creating Healthier Indoor EnvironmentsThanks to all who attended our April 21 panel presentation, “Creating Healthier Indoor Environments for Children to Thrive.” A huge thanks to our panelists for sharing such relevant and timely information about why we should work on improving our indoor air and how to do that at school and at home. If you missed the event or would like to re-watch the presentation, you can watch it until May 19, 2021

focus on advocacyAny PTA member is encouraged to submit an issue, resolution, or legislative principle that addresses concerns that affect children on a state-wide level. Learn more about WSPTA's legislative priorities here. The submission process is now open. The deadline for submissions is June 1, 2021.

Upcoming Dates & Reminders

May Board To-Do List

  • Elect new officers and approve the proposed budget at a membership meeting. Officers must be elected by June 30, but sooner allows time for transitions and training.
  • Report new board officers to secretary@lwptsa.net and to WSPTA via the memberplanet database.
  • Work with the treasurer to set June deadlines for reimbursements.
  • Complete Charitable Solicitations Renewal by May 31.
  • Plan transition meetings for incoming and outgoing board members.
  • Work with incoming board members to identify candidates for appointed board and chair positions.
  • Consider opportunities for volunteer recognition such as the Golden Acorn or other WSPTA individual award(s).
  • Was your PTA incorporated in May?  If so, then your annual Corporation Renewal is due on May 31. The annual corporation report is due regardless of your PTA’s annual income and is separate from the Charitable Organization Registration/ Renewal, which is also due May 31.
