Hello, what's up, and welcome to the Lite + Brite newsletter.
We're back, y'all. We have reached max vax (credit to Mike Stefanik for the phrasing), which means we're returning to IRL happenings in Austin, which means we're re-starting up this newsletter so you can know about the same events we do.
To remind you, since it's been 13 months and you probably haven't been thinking about your email subscriptions on a daily basis, Lite + Brite is a weekly events listing newsletter that comes out on Thursdays. In this newsletter we do not list normal concerts, normal movie showtimes, normal happy hours, normal trivia nights, etc. We do list art parties, pig beauty pageants, site-specific performances, miniature parades, events with words like “menagerie” in the title, Harry Potter parodies, anything referencing Kate Bush, etc. We also include info on our own events, which are usually DJ sets and parties.
Our basic criteria for listing an event is "does this sound like something I'd want to go to?" These days, that means not just "does it sound fun" but also "does it seem like something that I, as a vaccinated person, believe that I could attend without having a panic attack." It should go without saying that we are not health experts, we don't know how rigorous the mask enforcements will be at any of these events, and you may be more laissez-faire or cautious than we are. We'll give you options; you make your choices. For the time being, we're not listing indoor events where blowing on strangers' faces is the primary objective. We'll refine our approach from there.
If you're not already a subscriber to this newsletter, click here. Also, please support us by forwarding this email to your friends who enjoy things like listening to music and leaving the house sometimes.
We're starting to plan our first few socially distanced in-person events, but streaming is here to stay. For now, our weekly No Lights No Lycra party is still streaming from Twitch, and Brian Blackout's No Humans Allowed show on KPISS will always be streamed live with an AOL-style chat. Info on those is below. But the first glimmerings of in person events are coming...
The first of those is going to be a Sunday late afternoon party on Sahara Lounge's spacious patio on May 9th. Brian Blackout will be appearing with DJ Balbueno from Floorplay DJs. We'll have more details next week so stay tuned.

What is No Lights No Lycra?
Austin's weekly judgment-free, substance-free, high-impact dance thing in the dark. It's a DJ night that's not at the club, a workout that's not at the gym, a personal meditation that's anything but silent. Read more about us in the Austin Chronicle.
No Humans Allowed 052 - Your Robot Crush
No Humans Allowed is Brian Blackout's weekly robot-themed radio show on KPISS.fm. It's recorded live every Wednesday at 10pm CT / 11pm ET or streamable on demand via KPISS' archives.
This past week's show dove deep on the topic of robot crushes with public service announcements, frank discussions of robot/human marriage, and an array of italo, electro, synthpop, synthwave & hi-NRG to soundtrack those times when you're dreaming of your own robot crush. Stream it from KPISS' website here.
Tune in next Wednesday for the second part of Brian's interview with Adam Jones of SURVIVE and Holodeck Records.

How do we choose which events to feature?
Honestly, it's pretty random. We might include anything in Austin that we, personally, would conceivably want to go to, generally excluding normal concerts, comedy shows, and movie showtimes because there are many other good resources for finding those. This list is by no means exhaustive; it's just stuff that caught our eye this week. If you have an event that you want us to consider including, send it over.
Who are we?
We make this newsletter. We put on No Lights No Lycra each week. We do some other stuff here and there. We love going out to creative events in Austin, and we want you to join us. Visit us at http://liteandbriteatx.com/
