Call for proposals: Country research for the GEM Report Spotlight Report series on Africa    

A new annual GEM Report Spotlight Report series in partnership with the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) will launch in 2022 focusing on universal basic education completion and foundational learning in Africa. Over the next three years, the Spotlight series will cover a dozen countries per year. Of these, four focus countries will be covered in-depth.
 
To support this initiative, the GEM Report has issued a request for proposals to carry out consultations, collect data and other evidence, carry out fieldwork and compile information in accessible reports in the following countries:

The 2021/2 GEM Report photo contest ends today

Every year, we hold an international photo contest to seek out new and original images, with the best photos featuring in the GEM Report and associated communications products. This year’s competition is focused on the theme of the 2021/2 Report on non-state actors in education, which is due in December 2021. The winner will be awarded $500, and the runners up $200 each. Photographers must submit before April 30th.

New GEM Report policy paper coming soon

On May 17th, the GEM Report will release a new policy paper joint with IGLYO on inclusion and education with respect to sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression. It is being launched at an event at the Hotel de Ville in Paris co-organised by the Mouvement d’Affirmation des Jeunes Gais, Lesbiennes, Bi & Trans (MAG), Out Right Action International, the Mairie de Paris and the Austrian Government to mark International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia. 

The GEM Report at the Comparative and International Education Society Conference

The 2021 Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) Conference has taken place this week with education researchers, students, practitioners, and policy makers taking part in the annual event under the theme ‘Social Responsibility within Changing Contexts’. The GEM Report team took part in no fewer than ten events over the five days, covering topics such as its new online monitoring tool, Profiles Enhancing Education Reviews (PEER), its most recent policy paper on financing for equity in education, and its forthcoming regional report on non-state actors in South Asia, part of the forthcoming 2021/2 GEM Report cycle. To find out more about the team’s engagement at the conference follow this link.

Three key events discussed the findings of the 2020 GEM Regional Report on inclusion and education in Latin America and the Caribbean

  1. The GEM Report and the Indigenous Peoples Major Group for Sustainable Development co-hosted a side-event on April 22nd  during the Twentieth Session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) in New York, engaging indigenous activities from the region such as Myrna CunninghamTarcila Rivera Zea and Maribel Mora CurriaWatch the event.
  2. A high-level launch of the report was held in Brasilia on April 27th to launch the Portuguese version of the report and summary. Read more (in Portuguese).
  3. A conference on teachers, innovation and Covid-19 organized by SUMMA/KIX LAC with OECS and the IDRC on March 11th looked at teaching professional development and innovation in times of Covid-19 drawing on GEM Report findings and with the participation of the Ministers of Education of Guyana and Saint Lucia.
