Evening of Prayer – April 28, 2021

“For nothing is impossible with God.”
                                                                   (Luke 1: 37 NRSV)

                                                                     The Preparation

Leader: O Lord, I call to you; come to me quickly;
All: Hear my voice when I cry to you.

Leader: Let my prayer be set forth in your sight as incense,
All: The lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

All: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen.

Leader: Grant O God, that today and every time we come before you in united worship and prayer, we may be vividly aware of your presence among us.  May we sense your power and protection and be revived to know deep within our hearts and minds and souls the wonder of your grace, peace, and love revealed through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen*

                                                                         Liturgy of the Word

Leader: A reading from Daniel 2: 17 - 24

At the conclusion of the reading

Leader: The word of the Lord
All: Thanks be to God

                                                           Confession

Leader: Let us remember before God our selfish ways, the things we have done wrong, the sorrows we have caused, the love we have not shown.

Silence for reflection is kept.

All: Most merciful Father, forgive us our sins against you and against each other. Strengthen us to overcome our weaknesses that we may live in love as you would have us live, for the sake of Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.

                                                                   Prayers of the People

Leader: Let us thank God for the leadership and ministry of the Rev. Musa Daba at Trinity.
Let us thank God for all who pray for this ministry.
Let us thank God for the Levidia and Jesse: for the support they offer to Musa in his ministry as rector and for the gifts and talents they offer to the ministry of Trinity.

                                                                           Silence

All: Gracious and loving God we thank for the leadership provided by Musa to the ministry of Trinity.
We thank you for the enthusiasm and joy he brings to worshiping you.
We thank you for his boldness in proclaiming your Gospel to the church and to the world.
We thank you for his showing your compassion, mercy and hope to the sick and the dying.
We thank you for Levidia and Jesse, for their presence in our midst, for their sharing in the ministry of Trinity. We give thanks to you in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Leader: Let us pray that there would be signs of progress in the processing of Musa’a application.
Let us pray that Musa would be advised of a Reference Number.
Let us pray that the South African Consulate in Toronto would reopen and that the passport
office in South Africa would process the application in a timely way.

                                                          Silence

All: Almighty and omnipotent God, your scriptures teach that what is “impossible for mortals is possible for you.” We ask you for a miracle.  Give us the faith that would move mountains so that doors that are shut would be opened, barriers would be removed and that the way would be cleared so that our joint ministry would continue. We ask this in the name of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen

Leader: Let us pray for those who are working on behalf of this ministry.
That Musa’s lawyer would be guided by God’s Spirit to find a path for renewal of his work permit.
That all those who support this ministry would be faithful and diligent in prayer.

                                                             Silence

All: Faithful God we recall how in answer to the prayers of your church you miraculously rescued your Apostle Peter from certain death. Give us the wills to pray as that church did.  Guide with your wisdom who work on behalf of Musa and keep them strong in faith and hope. We pray this in the name of Jesus.

Leader: Let us pray for peace for Musa, Levidia and Jesse.
That they would not be overwhelmed by despair doubt and false hope.

                                                              Silence

All: Heavenly Father your Son Jesus Christ said “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you.” May Musa, Levidia, Jesse and all who support them enjoy the true peace that comes from knowing you and your Son Jesus Christ in whose name we pray. Amen.

Prayers for others and for ourselves

Leader: Let us pray for the safety of all who work and live dangerous situations.
Let us pray for those who have lost employment.
Let us pray for those who are struggling with difficult business situations.
Let us pray for those who are separated from loved ones because of the pandemic.
Let us pray for those have asked us to pray for them.

                                                                       Silence

All: Keep watch, dear God, with those who work, or watch, or weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep.

Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love’s sake. Amen.

And now as our Saviour Christ has taught us, we are bold to say,

All: Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen

Leader: Most holy God, the source of all good desires, all right
judgements, and all just works, give to us your servants that
peace which the world cannot give, so that our minds may be
fixed on doing your will, and that, freed from fear of our
enemies, we may pass our time in rest and quietness; through
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

All: The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with
us all evermore. Amen.
