Apply NOW to Chicago Early Learning
Apply early for preferred preschool placement
Early applicants on the CEL website will get preferred placement for Chicago Early Learning Preschools. These are preschool programs serving children who are 3 or 4 years old by Sept. 1st, but sites hosted by CPS schools are prioritized for high risk students, low income families and 4 year olds. Fewer spots are available for 3 year olds, mostly at community based sites. The majority of programs are low cost or no cost to attend, and can be a half day or 7 hours long. Families can choose up to 2 programs and proof of age, income and address are required to verify placement.
View the Application video to learn more about the steps. Hit the "Finalize and Submit" button to get an offer in about 3 weeks. Call the Chicago Early Learning Hotline 312-229-1690 or go to a Family Resource Center for more information.
Families who sign up for a CEL school-based program are NOT guaranteed Kindergarten admission to that school unless it is their assigned neighborhood school.

Major Changes for CPS Fall 2022 5th-9th
No NWEA MAP testing will be used for Fall 2022 admits
Current 7th graders finishing up their pandemic school year may have been wondering what is required for Fall 2022 high school admissions. CPS recently released their plans, stating that due to difficulty in offering standardized tests, they will remove the NWEA MAP requirement for all 5th-9th grade applicants.
- Fall 2022 9th grade applicants: no NWEA MAP, only single admissions test & GPA considered for some programs (including Selective Enrollment High Schools)
- Fall 2022 5th-8th grade applicants: no NWEA MAP, eligibility for Academic Center, Gifted and Classical programs will be based on GPA
- All CPS rising 8th graders will be given the single High School Admissions Test during school in Fall 2021. Non-CPS students can sign up for weekend testing. This single test will be used for admissions into any programs that previously considered MAP scores such as IB, SEHS, CTE and some magnet programs
- Classical and Gifted 5th-8th grade applicants will have admissions based only on the Classical or Gifted entrance test score
- Academic Center applicants will have admissions based only on their GPA and gifted entrance test score (450 pts each)
- 9th grade applicants for SEHS and IB will have admissions based on their 7th grade GPA and single High School Admissions Test (450 pts each)
GoCPS is hosting 2 webinars about high school testing on May 8 @ 10am and May 12 @ 4pm. Sign up by May 5 HERE.
