Back to the Stars
Premieres on May 7th

“Back to the Stars" is a filmed musical pilgrimage recorded on the ancestral and unceded territory of the sn̓ʕayckstx  Sinixt Arrow Lakes and Yaqan Nukiy Lower Kootenay Band peoples which is also home to the Métis and many diverse Indigenous persons.

The young women involved in this project, under the direction of Allison Girvan, are settlers who embarked on an intentional journey to unlearn colonial narratives, learn what was omitted in colonial 'Canadian' history and integrate a learning of Indigenous connection to land with the guidance, grace and wisdom of local Indigenous leaders -  Ann Marie Smith and Elder, Donna Wright - and then express the experience through songwriting and poetry.

This film is able to reflects the narrative of the path from individual to that of connection with each other and our natural surroundings in this 30 minute film that stirs the soul.

Echo
Now Available to Stream for Free

"Echo" is a local talent collaboration, from musician to dancers, choreographer to videographer, all coming together to create beauty in a troubling and isolated time.

The feelings and images explored in "Echo" were reflections of the pandemic, the empty theatre an echo of this time, the desire to express oneself and moving the space around us, a need for human connections and supporting each other, and in the end, self expression and the feeling of being together in our aloneness.

There have been many losses for youth dancers this last year, and this collaborative project with the Capitol Theatre and Slava Doval's DanceFusion created an opportunity for these 11 dancers to get onstage, perform and also learn from an industry professional. This was an opportunity not to be missed as Acacia Schachte has temporarily moved from Europe to be close to family here in Nelson.

Are you interested in learning to create wooden puppets?

This is your opportunity to spend some quality time with one of Puppetry’s most prolific designers and performers in the intimate setting of his workshop sanctuary.

Bernd Ogrodnik has performed twice at the Capitol Theatre with his beautiful shows "Metamorphosis" and "Peter and the Wolf" and we hope to have him back some day!

In this workshop Bernd will share his  personal approach to puppetry and why he promotes the art of the wooden puppet. Participants will receive concrete instructions on how to get started and keep honing their craft.

You will learn the making of a “kitchen table workbench” using only some very basic and easily available tools and materials. This will enable even the complete novice to start creating wooden puppets, while the more advanced participants will gain further valuable insights from Bernd's illustrious career spanning over 35 years.

You do not need any tools and materials for this webinar, but please have your pen and pencil ready, because there will be so much information coming to you that you want to write down.
The next course starts on April 24, 2021, at 9 AM EST/EDT
