Multi-billion dollar gasoline manufacturing facility coming to Ector County "A multi-billion dollar gasoline manufacturing company is coming to Ector County. Nacero Inc., a company based out of Houston, announced Wednesday that it plans to build a $6.5-7 billion lower-carbon gasoline manufacturing facility at Penwell in two phases. The first phase will see the facility produce 70,000 barrels per day of gasoline. The second phase will increase the capacity to 100,000 barrels per day." More at CBS7

Council to decide whether voters have a say in $27.9 million debt funding for Lubbock ‘needs’ "The Lubbock City Council’s Future Needs Committee has identified three projects it believes need immediate action and $27.9 million in debt issued as soon as possible to fund them. That funding would possibly through Certificates of Obligation (CO), a way to fund projects without voter approval. “The CO proposal is based upon: we need to do it now,” Councilwoman Latrelle Joy said at an April 13 council meeting. “If it’s approved, we will move quickly to go ahead and do all the details that are necessary for issuance and get that done. It there is a bond election, that cannot occur until November.”" More at KCBD
Gov. Abbott addresses permitless handgun carry for first time since House bill passage "For the first time since the Texas House of Representatives passed a bill that would allow Texans to carry a handgun without a permit, Gov. Greg Abbott addressed the issue and bill, though mostly avoided providing a clear answer as to whether or not he's in support of this push. After early voting Tuesday morning, Abbott was asked how he felt about HB 1927 making it out of the House and into the Senate. If passed, this bill will allow Texans 21-years-old and older to carry a handgun without a permit, unless they are prohibited by state or federal law." More at KTXS
Midland housing market 'bouncing back' "On Wednesday, crude oil closed out at $61 a barrel. A good sign, the oil and gas industry has started to pick up. When that happens, the housing market in West Texas picks up, too. In Midland, home sales have more than doubled since January. “We are seeing lots of people come in, Conoco Phillips is bringing in about 150 families, Apache, Chevron, people are coming from Oklahoma, Dallas, Lubbock and Houston,” said Tracy Farrow, who's worked at Legacy Real Estate Brokerage for 10 years." UT-Austin’s Longhorn Band will be forced to play “The Eyes of Texas” song that’s become a source of fierce division "Next fall, University of Texas at Austin students who play on the football team or watch in the stands can choose whether to sing the “The Eyes of Texas” at the end of the game. American, Southwest Airlines CEOs remain optimistic following 2021 first-quarter earnings "Two airlines based in North Texas reported their first-quarter earnings on Thursday morning. Dallas-based Southwest Airlines reported a first-quarter net income of $116 million. This comes after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier. She retired in 2003 from the San Angelo State School (MHMR), where she worked 30 years on the dorms. No one has ever accomplished this feat with as much caring, compassion, and patience as Cindy.

Doug was born to L.L. Plowman and Lottie Faye Stokes in Centralia, Illinois on December 5, 1939. He always said he got to Texas as fast as he could. He was raised in Kilgore, Texas and joined the Air Force after high school. The Air Force brought him to San Angelo, Texas where he met, fell in love, and then married Dorothy Russell at Goodfellow Air Force Base. They married February 6, 1960. Together they built a beautiful life raising two sons, Russell and Steve.

Surrounded by loved ones, Jennifer Kim Benoist, 45, of San Angelo, took her last breath in the early morning of Wednesday, April 7, 2021, after a lengthy battle with Cancer.
Jennifer was born in San Angelo on April 20, 1975 to Danny and Floy Porter.
In July of 2019, Jennifer was diagnosed with a very aggressive Cancer. From then on, she made it her mission to show Cancer who was boss. She never backed down from the fight and truly lived by the motto, “die trying to live.”

At San Angelo College Louise was the band sweetheart where she meet MC “Morty” Vinson who was just back from a tour in the Marines in Pacific Theater and Okinawa during WW2. Morty was Captain of the football team and took Louise to the Valentine’s Dance and they were both voted class favorites.

Dean was born on September 2, 1937, in Mathis, San Patricio County, Texas to Albert and Irene (Shepherd) Chamrad. He grew up in the Beeville area and graduated from Beeville High School in 1956. Dean would go on to graduate from Texas A & I University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Education in 1960, Texas Tech University with a Master of Science Degree in Range Science in 1966 and finally Texas A&M University with a Ph. D., in Range Science in 1971.

John Lee Barnett, lovingly called Grandad by his grandkids, passed away at the age of 93 on Good Friday, the 2nd of April, with his daughter, Beverly, son-in-law, John, and granddaughter, Michelle, beside him.
John was born on May 4, 1927 in Abilene, Texas to Martha Belle Sumrall and John Barnett. He was the eldest of six children.
He graduated from Hamlin High School in 1944. At the age of 17, he joined the Merchant Marines during World War II, serving on oil tankers that traversed the Pacific Theater between the United States and Japan.

David Eugene Pate, 69, of San Angelo went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 in San Angelo. David was born February 26, 1952 in Monett, Missouri to Thurman C. and Thelma L. Pruitt Pate. He attended Lakeview High School in San Angelo but relocated to California and graduated from High School there. Tom Wright, age 80, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2021. He is survived by his wife Belinda, his son Tom Wright Jr (Nancy), granddaughters Amanda and Alexia, brothers JR, Charles, Jerry and Jimmy, as well as many in-laws, nieces and nephews, friends, and four beloved cats. Tom was born March 31, 1940 in east Oklahoma, mostly raised in central California. He joined the Navy at 17 and spent 20 years riding submarines and destroyers. After retiring he went back to school, getting a master's degree. He loved to travel, seeing exotic places and spending time with family.

Private family services will be held at a later date.
Evangelina was born on November 13, 1941 in Kerrville to Francisco and Caterina Aguero Flores. She worked until her retirement for the Inn of the Hills Hotel in Kerrville.
She was preceded in death by parents and three brothers, Richard, George, and Ruben Flores.

She grew up in Nashville with her childhood sweetheart Charles Powell, graduated from Southern Arkansas University, and married Charles in December 1954, six months after he graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy.

Joyce was born in Amarillo, Texas on December 8, 1933 to Lewis R. and Myrtle E. Oliver Bridenstine. She married Roy Lee Ott in Gainesville on December 10, 1954. Joyce was a registered nurse for over twenty five years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Roy in July 2015 and by a daughter, Terri Lynn in December 2018.
