Call for participation in a special interest group hosted by ISAGA
Dear ISAGA members,
with enthusiasm we inform you of our new initiative to initiate Special Interest Groups (SIG’s) as a result of conversations between the ISAGA board (contact persons Elena Likhacheva, Marieke de Wijse and Heide Lukosch) and a number of members of the ISAGA community.
We will initiate inclusive and open Special Interest Groups that are active, welcoming and that will report regularly on progress and activities on the website, in the newsletter and of course the AC and the EB. Before we go into the actual work, we want to consolidate the SIGs together with the wider ISAGA community. Please feel free to add and comment on the agreements around the SIGs by emailing
marieke@isaga.net or
elena@isaga.net . Marieke will collect them and discuss these with the EB and of course report back to you.
- An ISAGA SIG is an open group of people interested in the same theme, topic or aspect of gaming and simulation. SIG membership is open to all ISAGA members, and non-members can be friend of a SIG.
- SIGs do not have formal hierarchy, nor any responsibilities in the ISAGA structure. They form primarily a structure for people to find, discuss and develop together with interested peers.
- Every SIG has 1 or 2 ISAGA members as point of contact. They are listed on the ISAGA website.
- SIGs can be started after a short written request to the EB, containing the focus of the SIG, an initial list of interested members, and a proposed contact person. The EB checks for potential overlap, and significance of the initiative for the full ISAGA community. The EB has at all times the right to terminate a SIG, if reasons may occur.
- SIGs can take initiatives, like for instance proposing special issues, conference workshops, webinars, etc. They can also be approached by conference organizers, journal editors, etc., as interested reviewers.
- SIGs will obviously overlap with other professional and personal engagements. The existence of a SIG, or the personal engagement with a SIG can never be exclusive for a person or a topic. It should be natural pathways, and not limiting structures.
We have some concrete
SIG groups to start with:
- Sustainability and environmental simulation games
- Facilitation of simulation games and playful learning environments
- Policy gaming
- Simulation games in health care
- Simulation games and system dynamics
- ….. (your initiative)
During some pre work to find out if there was support among our community for these groups people already showed interest for these groups. We manage a list of these individuals. You can directly email your interest to either
Marieke@isaga.net or
elena@isaga.net or you can fill out the questionnaire we will send you soon via email.
On the form
https://forms.gle/99vR4G6oyyLpgo6J6 you can also add Special Interest groups you prefer. Of course, these groups can have overlap and can cooperate. Some people from the NASAGA community will join these groups as well.
The plan is to have a maximum investment of 2 hours per month consisting of a meeting and time to perform actions to build the special interest group community.
Some
first ideas on activities of the SIG’s are:
- A zoom meeting every 2 months, and in between contacts and work for relevant voluntary projects
- Having updates in the newsletter
- Having a spot on the website where SIG’s can place updates
- Having social media channels to spread knowledge and ideas (ISAGA has a linked in, facebook and a Twitter account)
- Help each other with writing scientific publications on a topic
- Share new insights, backgrounds, materials, game tests
- Each group can set a planning with agenda with input from all members based on their interests
We hope to receive your response soon, so we can get these SIGs active and growing!
Best,
ISAGA Executive Board,
Heide, Elena, Marieke

Teaching with Business Simulation Games
June 1-18, 2021
How engaged are your students in your classes? Are they being challenged with real-world exercises and receiving performance feedback in real-time? AACSB International has designed a course to help instructors integrate business simulation games into their teaching efficiently, effectively, and with confidence. By participating in this course, instructors will become proficient and reflective practitioners of teaching with business simulation games, thereby improving student engagement and learning outcomes, as well as increasing their own professional satisfaction.

Book Proposal 2022
Dear colleagues,
M. Laura Angelini & Rut Muñiz invite you to participate in a book proposal on simulation. This book project aims to be an essential reference for those directly involved in simulations in education in different fields of study. The added value is the combination of simulation and virtual exchange as a collaborative intercultural approach.
Authors wish to undertake a collection of different visions which asks the following questions:
- What fields of study can be benefitted by the use of simulation?
- From the facilitation perspective, what facilitative capacities are needed in the simulation?
- To what extent does the integration of simulation and virtual exchange report impact on the learning of a) teachers/facilitators and b) pre-service teachers, in-service teachers/participants?
- How is learning theorized in the simulation literature?
Coordinators:
M.Laura Angelini, accredited lecturer and researcher at the Universidad Católica of Valencia 'San Vicente Mártir', the Chief Researcher of the Interdisciplinary Group on Active Learning and Assessment (IGALA). She has recently published the books “Learning Through Simulations. Ideas for Educational Practitioners” (2021) Ed. Springer:
https://www.springer.com/gp/book/9783030655396; and “La simulación como estrategia educativa. Propuesta adaptada para el medio físico y virtual” (2021) Ed. Dykinson. E-mail:
marialaura.angelini@ucv.es.
Rut Muñiz, Teacher of English for specific purposes (business, legal and technological) at the Universidad Católica de Valencia (UCV). E-mail:
