Volunteer Opportunity @ COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic, Clackamas Town Center

Thank you to those who've already signed up! You'll soon be receiving more information by email.

We still need volunteers, so we're wondering: Can you spare a few hours to help get our neighbors vaccinated, so all of us will be better protected?

The duties include checking people in, checking paper work, directing folks where to go next, etc. NOTE: Most of the positions involve a lot of standing, though there are some that may be done while sitting.

The dates are Sunday, April 25 and Monday, April 26:
  • Shift 1: 10 am-3 pm -- need 10 volunteers for check-in
  • Shift 2: 2:30 pm-7:30 pm -- 10 volunteers for check-in
To sign up, please click on this link for SignUp Genius, and select the shift that works for you: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c4aaaa928a2fece9-clackamas

Please let Pastor Michelle know if you have questions or have trouble signing up: zoar-pastor@outlook.com or 503-266-4061.
"For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord,
plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you
a future with hope." --Jeremiah 29:11
Calling All Graduates!

Are you a high school or college graduate-to-be,
or do you have a loved one who is?

We want to celebrate our Zoar graduates, but we need your help:
Could you please let us know if you or someone you love is graduating this spring,
so that we can congratulate them and celebrate with them?
Thank you in advance!

If you have a graduation photo and a short bio,
please send those to Karen in the church office:
zoar@canby.com.

We'd love to have you include the following:
the name of the school;
some hobbies, interests, or other highlights;
favorite memories of Zoar;
as well as any future plans, hopes, and dreams.

(Note: We haven't yet set a date for honoring our graduates,
so stay tuned. More information will be coming soon!)
It’s that time of the year for college students to apply for the annual Endowment Fund Scholarship!

Di and Jim Bernklau and Pastor Michelle Manicke will be attending the annual Oregon Synod Assembly of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, which will take place via Zoom on Friday, April 30 and Saturday May 1.

The assembly meets from 3- 6 pm on Friday and from 8:30 am-2 pm on Saturday.

You're invited to watch the livestream on the synod's YouTube channel, as your siblings in Christ from across Oregon worship, pray, and engage in the ministry of the wider church. Here's the link:

We are now ready to begin accepting donations of clothing. Please make arrangements for COVID-safe drop off through the church office: 503-266-4061 or zoar@canby.com.

Sarah Rodriguez and Pastor Michelle are working on an application for a creative ministry grant through the Oregon Synod. These funds would enable the Clothes Closet to purchase needed window coverings, furnishings, and accessories.

Due to COVID concerns and restrictions, there are no plans to open the clothes closet at this time. Once Zoar's leadership determines it's safe to reopen the building, and we have a comprehensive plan for keeping people safe, the clothes closet will be open by appointment only, during times when others are not in that part of the building.

The Clothes Closet Team wants everyone at Zoar to know that once it is time to consider opening, we will work with existing ministries to make sure everyone's space is respected. We have no desire to take over space that others are using and will do our best to find ways of sharing space that work for everyone involved.

The Clothes Closet Team: Cindi Jeskey, Mel Kubik, Jewell Manley, Kårin Rothi, Sarah Rodriguez, and Pastor Michelle Manicke (Ex officio).
Vaccination Information

Over the past few weeks, Pastor Michelle has sent out a couple of emails with information about how and where to sign up for vaccinations. This information changes frequently, and this week she learned of another website/spp that might be helpful in locating available vaccine. The new link is:

https://www.findashot.org/appointments/us/OR

Below are the links previously shared:

Get Vaccinated Oregon (Oregon Health Authority): Find answers to basic questions to learn if you are eligible, and sign up to get notifications of when and where vaccines become available. This website will also help you link to information about vaccinations in your county. Find this tool at
covidvaccine.oregon.gov or getvaccinated.oregon.gov.

*Clackamas County: https://www.clackamas.us/coronavirus
(*Check this site on a daily basis, as they add local clinics when vaccine is available, and you can sign up directly here. For example, they recently have held clinics at Molalla High School, the CC Fairgrounds and Clackamas Town Center.)

Salem and Woodburn clinics:

*Kaiser Permanente: https://healthy.kaiserpermanente.org
(*You don't need to be a Kaiser patient to get a COVID shot through them, but you will need to set up an account so that you can receive notifications and sign up for an appointment.)

SCAM ALERT: At a recent Oregon Synod Zoom meeting, our liaison to the Oregon Health Authority warned that you should NEVER give anyone your Social Security Number or pay any money for a COVID shot. There is no charge for the shots, and they don't need your SSN.

The "Zoar Connection" is Up and Running!

Thank you to everyone who signed up to participate in our grand experiment, the Zoar Connection. Partners have been assigned, and some of them have already gotten together for virtual coffee or have been writing and receiving cards.

Do you have a story to share about your "Zoar Connection?" We'd love to hear it! Please email your story to the church office: zoar@canby.com.

This new outreach ministry is a wonderful way to facilitate new friendships and strengthen existing ones. The current partners will stay connected between now and the end of April, but plans are already in the works to continue with new partners afterward. Stay tuned!
Our Thursday Morning Bible Study has been doing some "deep dives" into the riches of the Sermon on the Mount, using Dr. Amy-Jill Levine's book Sermon on the Mount: A Beginner's Guide to the Kingdom of Heaven as our guide.

It's never too late to join our Bible study, and thanks to the generosity of Donna Martz, Pastor Michelle has one study guide available. Please let her know if you'd like to participate:
zoar-pastor@outlook.com or 503-266-4061.

The assignment for April 29 is to read Matthew 6:9-15 and pp.79-90 in Dr. Levine's book.

As always, "BYOB"--bring your own Bible,  a listening ear, and an open heart, and feel free to join us! Pastor Michelle looks forward to seeing you on Zoom Thursdays at 10:30 am. The meeting link and the password will be the same each week and are listed below:

Over the past year, Zoar's Sewing Circle has continued their work of ministry by faithfully assembling quilts at home. Now they've reached the stage where they need to tie their quilts, and so they've begun to gather in small, socially distanced groups to stretch the quilts out on frames and tie them. These quilts represent many hours of work and are the product of hearts filled with love and compassion. They will be given to Clackamas Children's Services at a later date, and the staff there will offer them to children in foster care, who often have little or nothing that belongs to them.

The Sewing Circle is also busy working on quilts for some very special graduating high school seniors!

If you need to have fabric delivered, or if you have a project that needs to be picked up, please contact Jennifer Benz at 503-263-6453.
Zoar's Community Dinner Continues to Serve Our Neighbors

In the spirit of Jesus, who always fed hungry people, our faithful Tuesday and Sunday night dinner crews continue to care for our neighbors by serving delicious, nutritious take-away meals. In recent months they've been consistently serving just over 100 meals each night. Even their masks can't hide their beautiful smiles, which testify to their love for Christ!

Please hold our Tuesday and Sunday night dinner crews in your prayers, and please pray for our neighbors in this time when the needs often seem overwhelming.

If you'd like to volunteer to help our dinner crew serve, or if you can provide home-baked cookies, please contact the church office: 503-266-4061 or zoar@canby.com.

Our women's Bible study has been meeting weekly since the pandemic began and, thanks to the wonders of technology, has 15 faithful members from Zoar and our extended Zoar family. Leader JoAnn Rothi says that even once the pandemic is over, the group will likely continue to meet via Zoom, as it enables people from near and far to join. Also, this way no one has to drive at night!

The current study is the ELCA series "The Seven Faith Practices. Please check with JoAnn Rothi for the weekly theme and for materials (
joannrothi@hotmail.com).

Our joint confirmation class with Macksburg Lutheran Church and Christ Lutheran Church (Aurora) is winding down our in-depth study of the Beatitudes. Pastor Lorin, Pastor Craig, and Pastor Michelle have also been working to help our youth deepen and broaden their prayer life, in an effort to instill spiritual resilience.

It looks like we'll be able to go to Camp Lutherwood in late July for Confirmation Camp. Lutherwood is operating at 50% capacity for its overnight camps and is taking special COVID precautions. Two of Zoar's three confirmands are signed up and ready to go, and we'll be combining our class with other local Lutheran congregations.

Our next scheduled Zoom meeting is Sunday, April 25 ("Blessed Are the Peacemakers") @ 12:30 pm. A link will be sent via email to the parents of confirmands.
