Neighborhood Updates:
  • On Saturdays in April and May, you may see the Coalition's special Healthy Housing Team members walking blocks around the parks and the Greenwalk sidewalk path connecting them. They are sharing information with neighbors on how to create strong blocks and collecting ideas and concerns neighbors may have.  You can't miss them in their fluorescent yellow vests! Take a minute to share your thoughts if you see them.
  • Bike racks are now available at 3 locations in the green space at 81st and Troost. Thanks to AARP for allowing the Coalition to purchase the racks through their Active Living Grant Program! Kudos to KC Parks Department staff for installing them so quickly.
  • The Marlborough Community Center will be closed April through August. Some of their regular programs will be held in Swope Park and others at the South East Community Center. Call Director Oliver Hurd for information - 816.513.7800.
  •
  • May is Bike Month! Watch the Coalition's Facebook page for details about a May 24th, 1-4 pm Bike Rodeo for youth. There will be free bikes, locks, helmets, and lots of fun in Arleta Park that day!
  • Calling all volunteers for litter and trash pick-up on May 1st, 8 am - noon to coincide with the opportunity neighbors have to drop off bulky items, tires, and limbs at 85th and Paseo or 80th and Chesnut. We'll provide gloves, grabbers, bags, and a location to tackle. Volunteers from the KCMO Parks Ambassador program will be working on the north edge of  Marlborough Park along Wabash. again. Pitch in when you can, for as long as you can, during that time frame and for as long as you can. Contact information can be found at the end of this newsletter.
NEIGHBORHOOD BUSINESS HIGHLIGHT:
BB's Lawnside Bar-B-Q and Blues

BB’s Lawnside BBQ and Blues is a well-known local gem in the music and barb-b-que competition world that has been part of South Kansas City since the 1950's. This family-owned business is glad to be a part of our neighborhood and it continues to support the idea of great food, family, and love to support local music.

BB’s adheres to covid-19 protocol while offering a wide variety of lunch and dinner selections, including many to-go options to enjoy with your friends or family. Jimmy Nickle says he enjoys being part of Marlborough and is happy to share they are expanding and hiring more staff. Check out their calendar this spring for outdoor socially distant music concerts and daily menu specials.

Continue to support local businesses such as BB’s and when you stop in, tell Jimmy Marlborough says "Hello!"
