Conference Announcement

We hope you can join us for this year's NYSMEA conference, which will take place on Zoom from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm, on Saturday, May 15. The theme this year is "Bridging Our Connections to Water." Please read the following information, and then you can go to the link at the bottom to get to the registration page.

The day will start with an exciting introduction to the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030). Following that, you will have the opportunity to choose from among twelve workshop sessions, network with other participants who share your interests, bid in a live auction, and compete for a door prize!

We will be holding our ever-popular silent auction, which this year will be on line and will open one week prior to May 15. If you would like to donate any items to the silent or live auctions, please contact Lisa Breslof at auction@nysmea.org by May 1.

Registration is open to all NYSMEA members, If you are experiencing financial hardship and cannot afford the $25 registration fee, you can select "Charitable Community Outreach" on the payment page and use the code "PAYITFORWARD." If you are able to pay the fee, please check out through PayPal, or send a check (made out to NYSMEA) to: Sarah Richards, 107 Wyckoff St., Brooklyn, NY 11201. Thank you!

President's Note
Dear NYSMEAns

It has been a terrific seven years as President of NYSMEA. I met so many great people and have so many wonderful memories over the years.  I would like to thank the board members for all the support over the years. The team has been phenomenal from Sarah planning conferences to David taking care of our website.  Thank you to all NYSMEAns!

Sincerely
Lane

Secretary's Note
Dear NYSMEAns:

I shall echo Lane's sentiment with a twist.  Has it been 7 years?  LOL - I thought I signed up for a two year term!

I guess when you are having fun effortlessly sharing your expertise with a team of talented and dedicated professionals who create smiles, a-ha moments, and a steady stream of accomplishments, time flies. Hearing the enthusiasm of students, parents, administrators and leaders kept us going.  Then the excitement of dolphins, whales and seals flourishing in the local waters, along with all of the press coverage, really gave a positive push of energy.

And now that NYSMEA is planning to host the national conference next year, and the members will be rallying, it is a perfect time for a changing of the guard -  to give this opportunity to someone new, perhaps someone who is up-and-coming in our field who wants to feel the joy of group accomplishment outside of their workplace.

Since words cannot convey how wonderful the ride has been, I shall oversimplify: THANK YOU!

Best Regards,
David
