Dear <<First Name>>,

We get it. You are busy! Juggle and struggle seem to be two rhyming words that come to mind for parents during a normal year let alone throwing a pandemic in the mix. If you cannot read this all now, save it for later! None of us have all the answers on the tip of our tongues. Having some of these tips to reference back to will help you in the future.

This newsletter is packed full of parent resources, upcoming free webinars and more to give you the tools to succeed! Don't worry if you cannot make all the webinars. If you are interested in a topic, register anyway-some will send you a link after the event to watch at your leisure!

Don't forget to tell your 7th-12th graders about the Ground Level Cafe on May 7th at Sandy Beach. Registration is required to attend and perform. We still have some space for both!

Cohasset Cares

There was a phenomenal Earth Day turnout from the Cohasset community! Shout out to our Cohasset Youth Ambassador participants who hosted a table during the Town of Cohasset’s Annual Earth Day Cleanup, Cohasset Town Hall, from 9am-2:30pm, and provided Deterra pouches (a safe medicine disposal pouch that is environmentally friendly) available free to the public, along with literature and Safe Harbor swag.

Together, these amazing collaborative efforts helped the Town collect 52 pounds of substance-related litter JUST from our designated areas. We also gave out over 30 Deterra Pouches and collected 128 pounds of returned expired/unused medication at the Cohasset Police station for Drug Take Back Day.

A sincere thank you to many community members who lent a helping hand collecting and separating substance-related litter, especially the 15-person team from Evoke Wellness!

If you missed out on grabbing DeTerra or Safe Harbor swag, please visit the contactless table at the Paul Pratt Memorial Library.

How To Help A Teen With Depression: 9 Do's & Don'ts
Medically reviewed by Akilah Reynolds, PhD, Written by Crystal Raypole, Healthline, April 2021

“If you have a teenager in the house, you’re probably familiar with silence or vague responses when you attempt conversation, a tendency to sleep the day away unless you intervene, and a preference for phones and computers over face-to-face time with loved ones.”

“These behaviors are pretty characteristic of most teens, but they can also be signs of depression. Abrupt changes in their mood can lead you to wonder whether they’re struggling with mental health symptoms or just, well, being a teenager.”

Mental Illness & Substance Use In Young Adults
A Public Message from SAMHSA, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration

“Entering adulthood can be an emotional time, but sometimes the ups and downs can mean something more.

Millions of young adults are living with a mental or substance use disorder and many either do not realize they have one or are not paying attention to the signs and not seeking help. In fact, of the 8.9 million young adults who reported having a mental illness in 2018, more than 2 in 5 went untreated and of the 5.1 million with a substance use disorder, nearly 9 in 10 did not get treatment.

It is important to remember that asking for help is a normal part of life, and you should never feel like you have to take on the world alone. If you are concerned that you or someone in your life may be drinking too much, using drugs, or dealing with mental illness, there are resources available to help.”

Transitioning into adulthood comes with a range of emotions. Learn the signs of mental and substance use disorders and remember it is okay to ask for help.  Please CLICK HERE for an important infographic about entering into adulthood.
