Training Update April 2021

As of 26th April, the Irish Government is lifting several restrictions around sports.

Wicklow Archers is very happy to be able to provide outdoor training to archers, in our amazing outdoor venue Dargle Valley, from next Wednesday (28th April) from 7.15pm (and following Wednesdays) and from next Sunday (2nd May) at 9am (and from following Sunday onwards). Please keep an eye on the calendar for latest information.

Dargle Valley is home to both our outdoor range, with distances up to 60m, and are 16 target world class field course. Both will be available to archers.

However there are several things to note:

You must register by filling in the Return to Sports form at least 48 hours prior to training. If you have not filled in this form you will not be able to shoot. Texts, emails or what’s app messages will be ignored. We will also be running a slot-based system like before.

We are also running this as a pay as you go model so it will be €5 for Wicklow Archer members and €10 for non-Wicklow Archer members. We will also not be collecting cash and instead you can use card to pay when you turn up

You must be a valid member of an archery club and Archery Ireland to attend training. If you have not renewed your membership, we will not have any facilities to process membership in Dargle Valley. Please see instructions here as we are running reduced rates this year.

For the range, only two archers per target. For doing the field course, only two households can mix. We would remind archers to comply with social distancing, hand washing, mask and sneezing etiquette and restricting as much as possible our contacts during the coming days and weeks. There will be new signage around Dargle Valley to remind everyone of these guidelines.

Several club members and committee members have visited Dargle Valley now that we can travel 20km and have cleaned up the course, fixed targets, re-pegged the field course and so on. We're very excited to get back to shooting and back to Dargle Valley.

If you haven't shot outdoors before or it's been a while since you've shot, please please reach out to any committee member or coaching team for help. We'd be more than happy to go through the basics again during training and answer any questions you have.

Sadly we are not yet able to re-start Beginner Courses and we do not have any updates on our indoor venues (Shoreline and St. Gerards) and when we can return to indoor training. Additionally we cannot currently run any competitions. This is dependent on guidelines from Government, Sports Ireland and Archery Ireland and the owners of those venues.
