Basic Problem

👋 Hey all

Good to see you again to my newsletter about product ideas, building side projects, and problems worth solving.

"Find a job you enjoy doing, and..." Nah, I'm not going to pull that trope on you. Yet, we live in times of unimagined potential, where anyone can build and distribute. I guess this is the future, where "everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes." SCNR 😉

Let's create something.

🎨 Creator Economy

What actually is the Creator Economy? There are many explanations and one I really liked is from From The Attention Economy To The Creator Economy: A Paradigm Shift: "the platforms, marketplaces and tools democratizing creative expression and entrepreneurship; empowering an independent creative class to make a living on their passions."

As the Creator Economy is such a vast and diversified field, it's a great opportunity for indie hackers. It's a textbook example of finding niches to create tools or create downmarket solutions for Creators like customer relationship management, payment, membership management, distribution, audience discovery, analytics, creative tools, social proof, and many more. Need a comprehensive overview? Have a look at SignalFire’s Creator Economy Market Map.

To find the kind of offer you want to provide, read Creator Hierarchy of Needs, which uses a simple and logical pyramid scheme to categorize tools along the Creator growth journey. I quote:

  1. Publish: To get started, creators need to find a niche and publish frequently. Most creators give up before finding an audience, so staying motivated and avoiding burnout is key.

  2. Grow: To grow an audience, creators need to understand what's working, interact with fans, and collaborate with other creators.

  3. Monetize: To make money, creators need to add multiple revenue streams and learn how to run a business.

Building the Middle Class of the Creator Economy goes in a similar direction, highlighting 10 strategies to grow the middle class of creators, clustered into product, distribution, funding, monetization, and learning and support.

Closing, let's give you more "entry points" to get your head around the Creator Economy:

The greater the opportunities, the shorter my text. As I wrote above, this field is huge. So I focused on giving you some directions and areas to explore. Enjoy the trip down the rabbit hole.
