The Machine Learning Center Celebrates Its First Class of Graduates

This spring the ML@GT will honor its first graduating class. The three graduates - Cyrille Combettes, Harsh Shrivistava, and Haoming Jiang – will be the first students awarded a doctorate degree in machine learning from Georgia Tech.

Two Ph.D. Students Recognized as 2021 Apple Scholars — A First for Georgia Tech

Congratulations to ML@GT Ph.D. students Joanne Truong and Andrew Silva on being named 2021 Apple Scholars. Truong and Silva are members of the program’s second cohort and are the first Georgia Tech students to be awarded the scholarships.

Van Hentenryck Wins Institute Awards for Pedagogy

ML@GT and ISyE's Pascal Van Hentenryck has received the 2021 Teaching Excellence Award for Online Teaching. Due to Covid-19, Van Hentenryck successfully shifted his courses online in addition to a CS summer camp for middle & high school students. With this win, Van Hentenryck will be Georgia Tech's nominee for the Regents’ Teaching Excellence Award from the University System of Georgia. He has also been the recipient of many teaching honors, including the 2020 Student Recognition of Excellence in Teaching: Class of 1934 Award.

Two Machine Learning Students Named 2021 NSF Graduate Research Fellows

ML@GT Ph.D. students Caleb Ziems and Kevin Tynes Jr. were selected as fellows of the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program. Their research explores issues like cyberbullying and mRNA drug delivery.

Researchers Present Eight Papers at Top ML and Statistics Conference

Last month, ML@GT presented eight papers at AISTATS. One paper was accepted as an oral presentation, an accomplishment that only 3.1% of more than 1,500 accepted papers achieved.

Student Awarded Fellowship to Enhance AI in Fintech Transparency

Haekyu Park has won the 2021 JP Morgan AI Research Ph.D. Fellowship. Park received the award for her human-centered approach to increasing machine learning interpretability.
