As I am writing this letter, we are in the Holy Week of Easter here, according to the Orthodox calendar.  The church was filled with palm trees last Sunday, now they are making it dark for Black Friday, and Ian is busy preparing his message for
Resurrection Sunday.  It is a somber and reflective time as we remember the events of the Passover so long ago.  Please pray for us as we invite and share this message, in our small groups, in evangelism on Thursday, at the communion service on Friday and then on Sunday morning!
Horseback riding day! With all the girls plus Ariana, Tiffany and Caralee.
A LETTER FROM LORENA

Dear Friends,
Greetings from our house to yours.  We hope you are doing well. At the Safe House things are going overall very well.  The girls are going to school but with reduced hours.  They are having some difficulties because the teachers are not explaining the lessons well, due to the shortened hours, so they don't understand everything.
Anisa (14) has been struggling alot with her studies because it is her first year here in Korca,, so this school is new to her.  She said that it seems to her like she is doing school for the first time. In her village school they did not learn very much.  She has exams at the end of the year, so if you could pray for her, that would be great.
Marsela is trying to adjust to the life in the house.  She has some difficulties in school, in the first grade there is alot of learning to  write, which she had not done before, and although she can do it well if she wants, she often does not want to.
We are blessed that we have a teacher, Elena, who comes daily to help the girls with their school work.
The other girls are doing great in school and catching up with their grade school work.
Erisa and Bleona, which had some defiance issues previously, are doing much better with their behavior.  Praise God!
Mariana (our animal lover), Kamela and Ermela (sisters) are doing well over all, and get along well with the others in the home. (photos at bottom right)
All the girls are involved in the church and go to programs for their specific age groups.  Marsela, Bleona and Ermela go to the children's program on Saturdays.  Erisa and Kamela go to AWANA also on Saturdays.  Anisa and Marjana to the Junior High ministry several days a week.  We are so happy with how the girls are growing in their journeys with God.
Today, as I am writing, we are discussing taking in a new girl into the home, Her name is Lina Shaho, she is one of Marsela's younger sisters, who has been living in the state orphanage.  She is turning 6 this month.  We will receive her at the end of the month, please pray for her transition and that God will do the best for her life.
Please keep us in your prayers: the 8 girls, our staff: myself, Julia, Ina, Rea, Lola, Bruna, and Elena, the teacher. Also Ariana, who has just arrived with her husband and baby girl, from USA, to helps us.  She is an experienced social worker, and has begun working with the girls, since she arrived in January.  We have also had an American volunteer, Tiffany, helping out 2-3 days a week, learning English.
We want to give the girls the hope for their lives that is found only in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  We pray that God will redeem their lives and work in their hearts.
Please also pray for specific needs, like the dental work that they all need done, and other health care issues, like Marsela who will need eye surgery at some point in the future.
We thank you for your prayers and support of this project. We know it has saved these girls from being trafficked into salvery,  and it has given them a completely new life with hope for the future.  Thank you for being a part of this transformation...

With love,
Lorena

(Our Family photo below)
Anisa, came from a village of Pogradec, she was rescued from a kidnapping. She is very smart and caring like a big sister.
Marsela, 7 years old, (above) Bleona, 8 (below)
Erisa, comes from a family of 9 children, whose mother is "eternally pregnant" as babies get more money when begging on the streets. She came from the Street Kids Program after showing signs of neglect and abuse, she could not speak. Now she can speak, read and write!
"Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need."  Hebrews 4:14-16
"REBOOT SUMMER"
After over a year of COVID fear and restrictions, we are looking to planning a special summer with loads of activities to "reboot" the attendance, and remind people the importance of "being together to re-charge"  Our numbers have dropped in all our services and programs, which is probably true world wide, but we need to change the tone and habits of hibernation.  It is not good to isolate and neglect the gathering together.
We are hoping to do children's Programs and every age group outreaches. And continue to reach out to Villages with the gospel, while the weather is good.  We want to harvest!
We will need some outside help to make this possible, since we have fewer teams coming, which usually help us with these costs.  If you would like to help with Summer Outreach "Reboot" please give to the General Fund: Summer Outreach. We would especially value your prayers!
