The Shire of Esperance is set to host this year’s Keep Australia Beautiful Council of WA Tidy Towns Sustainable Communities Awards on 1 May at the Esperance Jetty Playground.
The launch will include a community clean-up session from 9am, with participants collecting rubbish from around the beach and parks towards the Esperance townsite, followed by the official Tidy Tidy Towns launch speeches and activities from 10.30am.
Esperance Shire President Ian Mickel said the launch would be a fun community event.
“You couldn’t ask for a better place to launch these awards – by the ocean and our brand new Jetty,” he said.
“Esperance is very fortunate to have such amazing natural assets and it is so important that we take active steps to protect them.
“I encourage everyone to get down and get involved with this fantastic initiative.”
Shire of Esperance CEO Shane Burge said the Tidy Towns awards helped to increase community understanding of the impacts of litter on the environment and support behaviour change.
“Simple actions such as picking up litter you find on your daily walk can go a long way in helping to keep our town beautiful,” he said.
“It is my hope that this launch will see the Esperance community come together and help to celebrate sustainable environmental projects and actions such as these.
“I look forward to seeing many of you down by the Jetty for the launch.”
