We have focused our April intentions on continuing to grow opportunities for diverse talent in Marion County. We already achieved our goal of 100% minority participation on the 38th and Sheridan project, including 97% MBE and 3% WBE and VBE. Now, we are working to help our partner subcontractors hire as much diverse talent as possible to extend the opportunity all the way down the pipeline to fresh talent entering the skilled trades.

We are proud to work alongside the General Contractor, Harmon Construction, a now fourth-generation African American company and also the founders of Harmon Steel and Taylor Brothers, to achieve hiring minorities for the project. On April 10 we hosted a pre-job fair to help job seekers prepare their resumes and interview skills for job opportunities in construction and manufacturing. We were humbled and encouraged by the sheer number of supporters who came out to elevate these job seekers into success.

April 17 we followed up with a hiring event. We live by the perspective that there is enough for everyone and that abundance is attracted to good work. We were so happy that every individual who attended the hiring event left with job opportunities for themselves and news of options to share with their networks.

We want to extend special thanks to Him By Her Collegiate School for the Arts, as the venue for both these events. It is so exciting to work with an institution that is dedicated to educating K-8 students in an afro-centric curriculum. Their success is built on the foundation of three guiding principles, integrity, pride, and unity.

March and April Progress at 38th and Sheridan

Our first full month on the site at 38th and Sheridan was full of demolition to make room for this exciting fresh start. Saying goodbye to the First Christian Missionary Church was bittersweet but is a pathway to growth for this community. Now we have a flat site that is ready for something new!
