Introducing The New IIDB Structure

The IIDB recently restructured and launched a new set of applied research LABs that better articulate the centre’s areas of research interest and expertise. This new structure will allow the centre to better coordinate both internally and externally, particularly in respect of the centre’s expanding global dotLAB Network. The new LABs will also better leverage the notable dotLAB branding that is developing through the centre’s active research, industry engagement, and funding pursuits.

The new research LABs are:
  • finLAB takes a multidisciplinary approach to exploring the interface between digital technology and modern financial innovation.
  • learningLAB takes a multidisciplinary approach to exploring how digital technologies can transform learning experiences and business processes.
  • subculturesLAB takes a multidisciplinary approach in the examination of themes related to digital subcultures.
  • trustLAB takes a multidisciplinary approach to exploring trust within and between people, organizations and technology.
  • workLAB takes a multidisciplinary approach to consider the ways in which digital transformation is transforming work.

Book Chapter: New Sources of Entrepreneurial Finance

Digital technologies are transforming entrepreneurial finance. Near-ubiquitous access to the Internet, platformisation, and advances in cloud computing, machine learning and artificial intelligence, and blockchain are changing the sources, basis, and quantum of funding in ways that were unimaginable at the turn of the century.

This chapter of Digital Entrepreneurship, authored by IIDB's Prof Theo Lynn and Dr Pierangelo Rosati, outlines the changes to the market for entrepreneurial finance from the perspective of structure and participants and can be read here.

Book Chapter: Blockchain: A Technology in Search of Legitimacy

Blockchain can potentially disrupt business processes across many industries. Despite substantial hype, blockchain adoption still remains quite low. Research suggests that the success and adoption of a new technology depends on whether it is deemed legitimate by key stakeholders. This is extremely important in the context of blockchain given the controversial reputation that some derivative innovations, such as Bitcoin, have gained over time.

This chapter of Blockchain Technology and Innovations in Business Processes, authored by IIDB's Prof Theo Lynn and Dr Pierangelo Rosati, explores and compares how four types of business actors which play a prominent role in the blockchain ecosystem—the media, IT, financial services and consulting firms—attempted to build legitimacy around blockchain and Bitcoin on Twitter and can be read here.

This paper has been published in European Sport Management Quarterly and can be found here.
