About our farm-

Sandhill Farm is a diversified vegetable farm owned and operated by Andie Donnan and Ashley Neises. Our one acre certified organic farm rests in Sinsinawa, WI as part of the Sinsinawa Mound Collaborative Farm. We are excited to be entering our fourth year of growing vegetables! The two of us combined have a wealth of knowledge between the food industry, managing farmers' markets, and operating a vegetable farm. We have a love for growing and cooking food, and farming in a way that contributes to the earth. All of our work is done with hand tools and we minimize tillage as much as possible. We focus on intensive bed production in order to reduce the amount of land needed to grow. Our produce is sold at local restaurants, farmers' markets and through three types of CSA's. Our drive for being vegetable growers stems from the desire to provide our family, friends, and community with fresh produce.

CSA Shares are still available!

We are 85% full and shooting for 100% by May 1st.
Help us reach our goal by spreading the word about our farm and CSA Programs!

What have we been up to?

We've been hustling to transplant our crops. The last two weeks have been transplanting mania! All of our spring crops are in now and we've began planting our succession crops like green onion and head lettuce. Since the rain has held up we've sown spinach, radish, spring turnips, arugula, and salad mix in the field. With the plastic installed on one of our tunnels, we will be planting tomatoes this week-which is very exciting!

We are grateful to be working with the St. Luke's Wading Pool Project this season. We are raising over 760 garden plants for the community! This project gives free garden plants to 60 gardens. They provide a wading pool, soil, compost, tools, plus the seeds and plants to participants! Their efforts have been supported by grants, local farmers, and the dedicated help of many volunteers. Not only does the project set an individual or family up with a "wading pool garden", they also receive tips on installing and maintaining their garden. Their goal is teach others how gardening can save money, build a healthy diet, expose you to new vegetables, and most importantly, gain a sense of pride while sharing your harvest with family and neighbors.

Most of our spring projects are complete minus modifying our greens washing and drying area. In the next month, we'll be a step closer to updating our post-harvest process for our salad greens in order to save significant amounts of time. We'll also be changing the way we harvest so we can grow more. Updates to come!

This week starts our farmer's market season! Stop down this Saturday, May 1st for the Dubuque Farmer's Market season opener. Then, on Thursday, May 13th The Millwork Night Market launches its start of the season. Despite being a busy month, we're enjoying slowing down to listen to the birds at the Sinsinawa Mound. It's a great time of year to experience such an array of different birds, including Sandhill Cranes! It's our favorite past time, especially while we work in the field and in the greenhouse.

Happy month of May!
