PTSA Membership Drive

Viking Families and Staff! Our teachers and students have worked so hard during this unusual time, and we want to support them the best way we can.

NM PTSA Scholarship

The North Mecklenburg High School PTSA is awarding scholarships again this year ranging from $500 - $1000 to seniors who have demonstrated exceptional efforts to enrich North Meck High and their community.

Applicants must:
  • Be an NMHS PTSA member
  • Be an NMHS graduating senior with a minimum unweighted GPA of 2.5
The scholarship award recipient must:
Attend their chosen accredited institution by the fall semester of their graduation year.

***The deadlines for the NMHS PTSA Senior Scholarship: The application and membership submission deadlines have been extended to April 26.**

Drive thru to pick up treats and a tshirt.  Wrist bands and car tags are required. Seniors with wrist bands: check your email from Ms Talton for tshirt size info.

NACAC Virtual College Fair:

The National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) is offering a FREE virtual college fair on April 20th. Zoom sessions will be offered by hundreds of colleges so students can learn about financial aid, majors, student life, scholarships, and more. SENIOR EXIT SURVEY:
Seniors, if you have not completed the senior exit survey, please take a few minutes to do so here: https://forms.gle/ieijCV8bELumX97x7. Seniors will not receive their transcript unless they have completed the survey. Reponses are due April 30th!
 
CAP & GOWN Information:
 
Do you still need to order your cap & gown?? To order, go to www.highschool.herffjones.com . Enter the school's name in the middle of the screen and click NEXT.  Then click on SHOP GRAD PRODUCTS.  There are several screens to scroll through to get to the check out.  There is a green bar at the bottom of each view.  Click on that to move through the site. 
 
If you’ve ALREADY ORDERED your cap & gown, you can pick it up here at school on May 6th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Out of 400+ seniors, 20 students have reported that they were offered a scholarship!! If you have been offered ANY type of scholarship, please make sure to report those offers ASAP, even if you aren’t accepting it! We want to celebrate YOU at Awards Day, and need your responses by April 30th!
 
Charlotte Knights STEM Scholarship & Charlotte Knights Healthcare Scholarship:
Three scholarships will be awarded to students interested in pursuing a career in a STEM field, and three scholarships will be awarded for students pursuing a career in a Healthcare related field. While no eligibility criteria is listed, the following criteria were required in previous years: students must:
1). Be a high school senior from Mecklenburg County;
2). Plan to attend an accredited institution of higher education in the fall;
3). Have a minimum 3.3 unweighted GPA;
4). Have a minimum SAT score of 1800 or a minimum ACT score of 26;
5). Be a member of at least one (1) sports team at your high school or related extracurricular activity;
6). Have heavy involvement in the community or multiple hours of volunteer experience; and
7). Plan to declare a major within the STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math), Healthcare field, or have demonstrated an interest in pursuing a career in these areas. The Tonda Taylor Scholarship:
Time Out Youth is awarding this scholarship to two Charlotte region LGBTQ+ students. Applicants must be residents of Mecklenburg, Union, Iredell, Cabarrus, Lincoln, Gaston, or York, S.C. with plans to attend a North Carolina or South Carolina college, university, or vocational program for the first time in the Fall of 2021. In addition to the application (which can be found above), students must submit a personal statement, recommendation letter, and financial aid information. An interview may also be required. Roberto Aguilar Cifuentes Scholarship:
This scholarship is offered by the Huntersville office of NorthStar Energy Services, Inc. in memory of Roberto Aguilar Cifuentes, a loyal and admired employee.To be eligible, students must:
1). Be Hispanic American;
2). Demonstrate financial need; and
3). Have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Students must submit one teacher recommendation letter and an essay answering the following prompt: "What One Event Shaped Me and My Life the Most, and How?" Email your essay to Mrs. Cameron by 2:30 p.m. on the deadline. Deadline: April 28, 2021.

2021 Jimmy K. Poole Scholarship

 

The 2021 Jimmy K. Poole Scholarship application, sponsored by the NMHS Athletic Booster Club will be available via Naviance beginning Monday, March 15, 2021.

The scholarship is open to any member of the 2021 NMHS graduating class that is/was a senior varsity athlete during the 2020-21 academic year.

Four scholarships will be available:

·         $1000 scholarship (2)

·         $500 scholarship (2)

The student must be college-bound (acceptance letter required), with the intent to complete either a 2 or 4-year degree. Students must have participated on one or more varsity athletic teams at North Mecklenburg High School for a minimum of the senior year and achieved a cumulative un-weighted 2.50 GPA.

The submission deadline is Friday, April 23, 2021. Please contact Ms. Cameron (kendalls.cameron@cms.k12.nc.uswith questions.
 
The winners will be announced at the Senior Awards ceremony.

SAT Updates

Please email Amy Stonehouse with any questions.
Students who submit the application by the April deadline, may submit an SAT score from any administration of the SAT between the dates of August 2020 – June 2021 or select to send their scores to the National Merit Scholarship Program (like they would to a college) during the SAT registration and administration process (IF they participate in the May or June SAT administration dates). The steps that students will need to take can be found on the National Merit website under the Resources tab- www.nationalmerit.org
