The 2021 NMAS training and CPD program is intended to cover mediation skills, practice and specific content areas.
These specialist courses and events are delivered by practicing mediators, allowing you to add input on key subjects. Our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Events are a constantly evolving portfolio of short training courses and events.
The events are held online on the Australian Mediation Association’s training platform. Our CPD Events are designed and delivered by experts in the field, aiming to deepen and broaden your skills and knowledge as a professional mediator.

Being a reflective practitioner in mediation is often discussed, but does this mean and how can it can enhance practice will be examined in this webinar. Participants will be encouraged to become more reflective as they work as a mediator.

NMAS Online Mediator Qualification Course 2021

With our Mediator Training Course, there exists the opportunity to obtain the necessary basic process and skill components of mediation training online. You can become accredited in accordance with the Australian National Mediator Standards.
The Australian Mediation Association (AMA) for offers a collaborative, interactive training and learning experience. Every participant will stay engaged like never before.

What work opportunities are there as a mediator?
|
|
|
There is increasing use of mediation and other forms of ADR in Australia. People undertaking mediation and Family Dispute Resolution training vary to the extent in how they find opportunities as a mediator.
Some may find salaried roles within government or not for profit agencies. Some individuals pursue mediation as a full-time career whilst others see a career in mediation as a viable option to supplement their current vocation or as a part-time profession post retirement.

Government welcomes ambulance union mediation order
|
|
|
Treasurer Rob Lucas has welcomed a decision made by the President of the SA Employment Tribunal, The Hon Justice Steven Dolphin, today to order the Ambulance Employees Association (AEA) to engage in mediation with the State Government over the union’s ongoing industrial dispute.
“We welcome this development and hope that, ultimately, it leads to sensible discussions, which is something the Government has long been calling for,” Mr Lucas said.

Seven awarded $5.3m deduction on CA rights deal by mediator
|
|
The expert appointed to mediate the rights dispute between Seven West Media and Cricket Australia has decided that the financial impact of changes to the 2020-21 cricket season is $5.3 million, subject to potential further increases.
The expert determined that $5.3 million should be deducted from the next scheduled rights fee payment on 15 March 2021, which is the same day Seven’s preliminary discovery action in the Federal Court is set down for. Foxtel and Seven signed a six year deal with Cricket Australia for the television rights in 2018. Seven’s share equates to $450 million.

Laser Clinics Australia embroiled in legal dispute, with 52 franchises demanding $80 million in compensation
|

The country’s largest hair removal operator Laser Clinics Australia (LCA) has become the subject of legal action after a group of its franchisee clinics lodged a letter of dispute, seeking $80 million in compensation.
According to an investigation by the Sydney Morning Herald and the Age, 52 of LCA’s franchisees lodged a 140-page letter of dispute claiming the company has “gouged them on costs for equipment and supplies, while forcing them to conduct aggressive discounting”.

Bundaberg cane grower Ronald Feierabend has had a heart attack, a cancer diagnosis and lost his father during his long-running fight with his bank and now he's on the brink of losing his farm.
"Unfortunately, we've been to mediation twice, we've been through the customer advocacy at Suncorp Bank,"
Mr Feierabend said he was in the process of refinancing his loan after flooding in 2013 when he noticed the budgets the bank was relying on to estimate his farm's profitability were different to the ones he supplied.

Like the complex and often slow process of negotiating a good result from a bad debt exit plan, drafting a compulsory national farm debt mediation scheme is taking far longer than expected.
State farm debt mediation rules require bankers and other creditors to work through debt resolution and repayment strategies to avoid taking foreclosure action to retrieve outstanding funds from borrowers.

The NZ Herald has reported several of the country's leading rugby players are threatening to block New Zealand Rugby's deal with United States technology investment giant Silver Lake over concerns it could ruin the team's relationship with fans.

Human rights body to have powers boosted

The Senate has approved a request to restore the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC)'s power to mediate conflicts associated with rights violations.
Prakairat Tonthirawong, a member of the NHSC in her capacity as acting chairwoman of the commission, told the NHRC that the Senate last Monday approved the NHSO's proposal to restore its authority to mediate human rights conflicts.

13.6 million disputes mediated online
|
|
A total of 13.6 million disputes have been handled on China's online mediation platform since it was established in February 2018, with a resolution rate of 65 percent, the Supreme People's Court said.
To save people the trouble of going to court for dispute mediation, the top court expanded the online mediation platform on its website last year, connecting it to all courts across China. Since then, 32,900 mediation organizations and 165,000 mediators have participated in proceedings on the platform.

Villagers in North Sumatra, Indonesia, are waiting to hear if the World Bank will support their struggle against a zinc mine owner’s plans to build a tailings dam on unstable volcanic soils near their homes.
Back in October 2019, the community sent their complaint, against mining company PT Dairi Prima Mineral (DPM), to the World Bank’s private finance arm, the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

Mediation is a procedure whereby two parties sit together with the impartial assistance of a trained third party to lay out, discuss, summarise and prioritise their issues, then explore the options open to them before arriving at a satisfactory solution.
As long as there is co-operation on both sides, it is a simple and satisfactory process. But, if either party is forced into mediation, or participates reluctantly for any other reason, it will prove problematic.
