example of QR code

On 9 April the Victorian Government changed COVID restrictions.

One of the measures was to mandate the use of QR codes at venues, such as U3A Hawthorn, to record attendance for COVID tracing purposes.

The requirement is for all venues including Sinclair Ave campus, Frog Hollow, Robinson Road, Parkview Room, Balwyn Library and St Marks.

So, whilst you still need to note your attendance on the class roll you will also be required to use the QR code for tracing purposes. You must do this as soon as you arrive at the venue, however you only need to check-in for the first class of the day (not for every class attended that day at that venue.)

We will ensure that QR codes are available in each room and we will seek to have a nominated person in each class to assist those without a device with which to scan the code.

Remember, use of the QR codes is required to enable us to have more members in a classroom (one per 2 sq. m. rather than 4 sq.m) so it essential that members comply.
The QR Code process

Step 1 Make sure you have downloaded the Services Victoria App to your smartphone or tablet by clicking here and electing to download from either the Apple AppStore or, for Androids, from GooglePlay.
Step 2 On arrival at your class, scan the QR code by either of these methods;
  • open your camera app, hover over the QR code so that it is in the frame and then follow the prompts to open the Service Victoria App
  • open the Service Victoria App, select "Contact tracing check-in", then hover over the QR code so that it is in the frame and follow the prompts
Step 3 Enter your first name and phone number

If the scan does not work you can check-in manually;
  • open the Service Victoria App, select "Contact tracing check-in", then select "Having trouble? Check-in manually".
  • enter the 6 character code displayed below the QR code
  • enter your first name and phone number
I don't have a smartphone!

You must ensure that you are checked in by someone else using the QR Code.

Anyone else with a smartphone can assist you to check-in.

They simply follow Step 2 above and then, in Step 3, they can backspace over their own name and enter yours. They can backspace over the phone number and enter a phone number, such as a landline, for you.
