April 2021:
Updates and Housekeeping

April 20th, 2021
Dear KTFC Community,

We have had a successful and sunny start to the outdoor season. Although we are still operating under COVID restrictions, we are fortunate to be involved in a sport where distancing and safety is relatively easy to maintain and competitive opportunities are still available in a modified format.

Our programming has proved to be very popular this season. Our JD and Track Rascal program filled up very quickly with record numbers in attendance. We are currently taking waitlists for these programs and making significant progress in building our coaching capacity to support our growing numbers.

This week is a busy one! This weekend, KTFC is hosting two "Performance Trials": the BC Identified Throwers High-Performance Trial #3 and the KTFC Track and Field Trial #2. Saturday will be the final pick up date of our annual manure sale. Additionally, our Mini Track Rascals and Track Rascals are on the track for their first sessions of the outdoor season!

Information: Outdoor Registration

JD and Track Rascal programs are FULL. Email ktfccommunication@gmail.com to be placed on a waitlist.

Space is still available in the following programs:
  • Mini Track Rascals - (Ages 3-5) begins Monday, April 19th
  • Middle Distance Group - (Ages 13+)
  • Track and Field - (Ages 13+, including Masters)
  • NEW! KTFC High School Track and Field - (Ages 13-18)

Manure Sale - Final Sale Date: April 24th

We are almost there! We have 300 bags of manure left to sell and will be offering our last pickup sale date on Saturday, April 24th from 10am-1pm at 1452 McGill Rd. (the empty lot next to Fortis Gas). Kindly help us spread the word by sharing our event on social media and letting your community know.

If you would like to dedicate a few hours of your time to assist with loading the bagged manure on Saturday, please email Judy Armstrong at judy54armstrong@gmail.com

We are extremely appreciative of the lengths that our volunteers have gone to so far. We have had families go above and beyond by working double shifts, assisting with deliveries, and putting in some serious hard labor!

Program Fees: JD (12/13 year olds)

At 12 and 13 years of age, some athletes are invited to specific programs based on their development and potential. If you have a JD athlete who has been asked to "move up" to train with the 13/14/15 year old group, instead of remain in the 9-12 year old age group, please ensure that you are paying the correct fee amount. The JD program fee only covers athletes who attend practice twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays). For athletes who are attending more than that, kindly contact Judy Armstrong at judy54armstrong@gmail.com to have your fees corrected. If you are choosing to forgo the regular JD practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays and only train twice a week in your specific program (pole vault, for example), the regular JD fee will apply. Some athletes, however, are attending practice up to 4 days a week and fees need to be adjusted accordingly.

KTFC Volunteer Hours

We have had a number of inquiries from families lately regarding the volunteer hour requirements from members. For clarification, please refer to the following information:

Requirements for Refund

An annual volunteer fee of $125.00 is charged to every family/athlete involved in our programs with the exception of Track Rascals. In order to receive a refund for this fee, each family/individual must complete a minimum of 12 volunteer hours. These hours are in addition to the mandatory hours required for the annual manure sale. Hours logged as an official also do not count towards your volunteer hours.

Opportunities for volunteering are available at our track meets and at other times throughout the year. Due to COVID, the Board will be considering whether adequate opportunities were available this year for families to receive refunds. We will communicate with membership if changes need to be made to the policy.

Tracking Your Hours

Kindly keep track of your own hours in the format provided HERE

At the end of the season, download your file and email the document, along with your refund request to Caitlin Reed at ktfccommunication@gmail.com. A cheque will be mailed to your home address upon approval.

Volunteer Coordination

Currently, we are recruiting for a new Volunteer Coordinator to replace Nicole Ritter. In the meantime, Caitlin Reed is overseeing the majority of the coordinator responsibilities. If you are interested in taking on the position, please contact Caitlin. The position involves creating a schedule of tasks and assigning parent volunteers for our track meets and fundraisers. It’s a great way to get to know everyone, fulfill volunteer hours, and get a front row seat to the action!

Outdoor Competitions

KTFC has hosted a number of outdoor competitions already in the month of April. Currently, aside from the exceptions for high performance athletes, we are limited to hosting "In-Club Performance Trials" which means that the competitions are only open to KTFC members. Please ensure that you take the time to thank the volunteers and officials who are running the events. Although they are smaller in nature, these events take almost the same amount of time to organize as full-scale track meets.

Results

Participating athletes should be emailed the results from the meets directly. Additionally, results are posted on our website. CLICK HERE to view.

Reminders: Volunteering and No Spectating

Unfortunately, the current provincial health orders prohibit spectating at any sport. The same restriction applies to our competitions at Hillside Stadium. We recognize how difficult it is for parents to be unable to watch their children compete. We are, however, asking for everyone's adherence to this rule and have greatly appreciated the cooperation thus far. KTFC is watched closely at Hillside Stadium. We are on full display and do not want to risk having our programming or competitions shut down. We can't wait to welcome everyone back in due time!

Parents who have officially signed up to volunteer at the competitions (In-Club Performance Trials) are not considered spectators. If you would like to volunteer, you can submit your name when you register your child and a KTFC designate will be in touch to assign you a job for the day. We are unable to accommodate all volunteers. The amount is dependent on the number of athletes who register. We must remain under 50 people at all times.

Upcoming Competitions

Below is the list of outdoor competitions. Some are open for registration already! Your coaches and Brian Beck, our Meet Registrar, will be in touch with more specific information. Please note that there is a limit on athletes who can register, so please sign up as soon as possible to secure your spot. All events will be held at Hillside Stadium.

Notable Results

Congratulations to Kian Zabihi who threw 64.80m in the hammer at the BC ID Throws Meet in Kamloops on April 17/18th. Kian improved his PB and continues to be ranked number one in Canada for his age group.

Cancellation of BC Athletics T&F Championship Jamboree

Due to the ongoing uncertainty of COVID-19, BC Athletics and the Prince George Track and Field Club have made the decision to cancel the 2021 Championship Jamboree. The event was scheduled to be hosted in Prince George July 9-11, 2021. BC Athletics is considering a modified Championship in summer 2021 if the situation allows. KTFC has expressed interest in hosting and/or participating in this opportunity. We will provide updates to membership as they become available.

Please CLICK HERE to read the full article and participate in the survey to share your interest and feedback regarding a modified Championship!

Welcome to Coaches

We are beginning to build a group of young coaches who are also KTFC athletes! These athletes have taken the initiative and interest to take the NCCP Instructor Courses to become certified coaches and lead our next generation of athletes. Please join us in welcoming Kaidi Visser, Kayla Hermiston, Sophia D'Amore and Jacob Heer. These youth will be involved in our Mini Track Rascal, Track Rascal, and JD programs. They bring experience, youth, and energy to our programs. Please take the time to welcome them and extend your support.
