Academy Family,
Can you see the finish line? It is only 23 days away! What a year to remember! As soon as I read the following devotion, I knew I had to share it with the Grammar Staff.
This devotion has come to mind numerous times since I first read it. It reminds me so much of our Academy family! In August, we had no idea if we would see the finish line in May. We definitely focused on endurance and pulled out all of the stops. Each person gave it everything to be sure that we could continue to meet face to face. We all knew quitting was never an option because our work was too important to stop! We met obstacles and disappointments along the way of not being able to do things the way we had done them in the past. However, we thought outside of the box and found new ways to do some things that are now our “COVID keepers”. When the pressures came, we did not lose sight of the goal. There is definitely no doubt that we all have a passion to cross the finish line in May!
During spring break, this devotion came to life for me. I traveled to Arizona with my niece. There were two hikes on her bucket list for our time there. One was to climb to the top of Cathedral Rock and the other was to walk on Devil’s Bridge.
As soon as I saw Cathedral Rock, I was not sure that I wanted to do it. I reached a height where I wanted to stop. I told my niece that I would wait for her at this point. She refused to let me quit. Others began to encourage me, and the hikers on the way down began to tell me that it was worth it. A stranger lent me his hand and pulled me into the rock “tunnel” while my niece pushed me. What others knew that I did not know was this was the hardest part of the hike. As we climbed higher and higher, I could see a sign ahead that said, “End of the Trail”. I kept my eye on the “finish line”. As soon as we reached the top, the view astounded us! My niece and the other hikers were right. It was so worth it! I was so glad I did not quit. As I sat at the top, I thought about our theme this year, “Warrior Strong, Warrior Brave, We do Hard Things!” (even on spring break!)
We finished our day in Sedona with a hike to Devil’s Bridge. I did not hesitate on this hike after learning a few life lessons on the earlier hike. Once again, it was so worth the challenge to make it to the “finish line”.
Let us always remember to fix our eyes on the goal. Let us run to the finish line of this memorable school year together! THANK YOU for running this race with us this year! We all gave it everything we had, and it was definitely worth it! Our work with these precious children is definitely too important to ever stop, and I am already looking forward to our next school year!

 This week’s Servants of the Week of these three Academy teachers, Mrs. Looser, Mrs. Walker, and Mrs. Barnes, who will be traveling to Southeast Asia June 4th – 15th. They will be spending two and a half days working with teachers and students at the new school that has been graciously funded by friends and family at the Academy and local Huntsville churches, and two and a half days ministering to the women of the local churches. They are in need of school supplies to take to the new school. If anyone is interested in donating, please contact Catherine Looser. More than anything…they covet your PRAYERS!!! Let’s join together in praying for these teachers as they prepare to share the love and hope of Christ abroad. We are thankful for their hearts for Christ, and their service to our Academy family and to the nations!

This event is for all Academy parents, and will be a very special evening. Please make plans to join us next Monday. There will be a silent auction, cheerleading performance, live fashion show featuring our new Lands' End uniforms, very important announcements from the administration, student art on display and more. It’s a celebration of what God has done and an opportunity to look ahead to the future of Whitesburg Christian Academy.

- Pack backpacks and lay out clothes & shoes for the next day the night before.
- Plan to leave for school a few minutes early so you aren’t
- rushed.
- Help your students get a nutritious breakfast & dinner.
- Help your students get in bed at a reasonable time so they
- are well-rested.
- Pray with and for your students!
- Give them a big hug and a smile! They are READY!

First Grade
My name is Shannon Wagoner and I am so excited to be a part of Whitesburg Christian Academy for the 21-22 school year. I have been married to my husband, Brian for 20 years (in May). We have one 13 year old daughter, Mary Frances, and one four-year old, 4 legged K-9 child named Mille. I graduated with my undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education from Troy (State) University and earned my Masters Degree in Special Education from The University of Alabama. While I am retiring with 26+ years of experience from the state of Alabama, I feel in my heart that I am NOT done teaching. I am thrilled to be a part of a community where education is respected and parents have high expectations for their child, as well as their child’s teacher. I am looking forward to many years of making new friends and meeting new families.

Second Grade
My name is Dana Hall. I’m so excited to come to Whitesburg Christian Academy to teach second grade after twenty-six years in the Huntsville City Schools system. I think I’m most excited about being in a Christian environment where I can freely talk about Jesus. My husband Kevin and I have been married for 27 years. We met during college at David Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee, where I grew up. We have two great children. Kendall is a junior at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. Grayson is a sophomore at Huntsville High School. One of our favorite things to do as a family is to go to Disney World! My other favorite thing to do is read as many books as I can. We’ve attended Mayfair Church of Christ since we got married and where I often teach classes on Sunday mornings. I’m looking forward to my new “family” at Whitesburg!

Health Science Electives
My name is Lori Clark and this is my 10th year as an Academy parent and my first year as a school nurse. I received my Bachelor’s in Nursing from Auburn University and then worked 6 years in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Huntsville Hospital. I spent an additional 2 years doing research for the physicians at Huntsville Neonatology. After many years as a stay-at-home mom, the Lord blessed me with a new opportunity this year to work as a part-time nurse in The Academy’s Upper School and I have enjoyed every moment! I will continue that role next year, but I will also have the privilege of teaching the Health Science electives that are new to The Academy. I am really excited about this opportunity and hope to inspire the students to learn all they can about the field of health care. My husband, Jamie, and I have been married for almost 23 years and have been blessed with 4 children: Jacob, Sara Grace (WCA graduate 2020), Will (10th) and Drew (5th). We attend Rivertree Church and also serve on the leadership board of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. In my free time I enjoy cooking, baking, traveling, boating and any activity with family and friends!

Congratulations to the Science Olympiad Gold Team for finishing 20th in the nation in our first year to compete. Eli Franklin and Georgia Stewart were silver medalists in Anatomy and Physiology (2nd in state).
Congratulations to Brynn Holbrook for being 1 of 16 high school seniors across the nation to be awarded as a finalist in the National Alliance of Christian Schools (NACS), formerly Southern Baptist Association of Christian Schools, 2021 Joshua Expeditions Scholar Program. Congratulations to Sara Fields and Brennan Paulus for being recognized as semi-finalists.

Benjamin Morton Cox is the son of Corry and Erika Cox and has attended The Academy his entire educational career. During his time at The Academy, he has graduated from the Student Leadership University, the Chick-fil-A Leadership Academy, was an active member in both National Junior Honor Society and National Honor Society, and was awarded the Jerry Reeder Leadership Award. He was also awarded the Capstone Leadership Award from the University of Alabama in 2019. Benjamin has served as the team captain in varsity football, basketball, and baseball as well as lettering in all three. He has served as a leader for the Academy’s Middle School Retreat, mentoring middle school students in their walk with Christ and as a camp counselor for Seek Adventure. Benjamin loves to travel and enjoys spending his time watching and playing sports. After graduation, he will attend Auburn University and plans to major in Business.

Mikayla Nicole Johnson is the daughter of James and Lindsay Johnson. She has attended The Academy for eleven years. In her time at The Academy, she has played volleyball for six years and soccer for four years, serving as team captain for soccer her senior year. She has also served as a leader for Middle School Retreat, mentoring middle school students in their walk with Christ. She has helped lead worship, both playing the guitar and singing, for Chapel for the upper school. She also enjoyed coaching soccer for TK and Kindergarten. After graduation, she is planning on attending the University of South Alabama to major in Pediatric or Neonatal Nursing and minor in Spanish.

Allison Marie Prince is the daughter of Ricky and Kristen Prince. She has attended The Academy for her entire educational career. In her time at The Academy, she has served as a member of the National Honor Society, the Chick-fil-A Leadership Academy, and the Headmaster’s Council. She is a graduate and ambassador of the Student Leadership Academy, and a representative of SGA. Allison has competed in Science Olympiad, and participated in The Academy’s indoor and outdoor track and tennis teams. She has been awarded the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Representative as well as the Mississippi Excellence in Teaching scholarship, Freshman Academic Excellence Scholarship, Colvara Future Leader Scholarship, and Non-Resident Tuition Scholarship. After graduation, Allison is planning to attend Mississippi State University.

Bailey Collins Crain is the daughter of Blake and Julie Crain, and she has attended The Academy for five years. In her time at The Academy, she has participated in art and The Academy’s theater program as well as many performances. She enjoys art, theatre, mythology and creative writing. After graduation, she will be attending the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Sarah Chase Bentley is the daughter of Trey and Samantha Bentley. She has attended The Academy for her entire educational career. In her time at The Academy, she has been a member of National Honor Society and was awarded the Spirit of the Founder Merit Scholarship. She has also participated in The Academy’s tennis program and helped lead the team to the state tournament this year. After graduation, Chase plans to attend Auburn University to major in Business Administration.

Baseball Family night tomorrow!
The Warriors wrap up the regular season with Family Night on Tuesday, April 20, hosting Holly Pond. Jason Simpson will throw out our first pitch and elementary students can chase Sampson around the bases after the Varsity game. Varsity plays @ 3pm, Middle School @ 5pm.
