Longtime Village Store manager to retire after 16 years
The Recreation Centers of Sun City West would like to congratulate
Katie Van Leuven, Village Store manager for the past 16 years, on her upcoming retirement. Thank you Katie for all the work you have done for our Sun City West community. From managing the Village Store to putting together the Rec Centers' annual craft fairs, your efforts have been greatly appreciated. 
If you happen to be in the store and see Katie before she moves on to enjoying her retirement, be sure to congratulate her!
Village Store temporarily closing after April 28
The Village Store will be temporarily closing after Wednesday, April 28, as the Rec Center staff and the Governing Board will be working to determine the correct tax classification for some chartered clubs. More details on this topic can be found by watching the replay of the April 9 Governing Board workshop where the general manager went into great detail on the subject.

Budget session replays available
Replays of last week's budget sessions with the RCSCW General Manager are available for residents to watch online on the SCW YouTube channel. These sessions are a great way for the community to learn about the proposed fiscal plan for 2021-22.

AFMA charities car wash
Support AFMA charities while also getting your car cleaned! AFMA will be hosting a car wash from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, May 7, at the R.H. Johnson Recreation Center.

Posse drug take-back event
Do you have prescriptions that you no longer need? The Posse will be hosting a drug take-back event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, April 24, in front of the SCW Posse headquarters. No glass, needles or liquids will be accepted. Deputies from MCSO District III will be on site to assist residents in disposing of their unused/expired prescriptions or over-the-counter drugs.
Vacation watch service provided by the SCW Posse
The soon-to-be exodus of homeowners from Sun City West will kick the Posse volunteer vacation watch program into full swing for the summer. One of the free services the Posse offers to SCW residents is a vacation watch house check while residents are away. If you are registered in the program and have a signed card on file, simply call the Posse at 623-584-5808 and provide your dates on the phone. If you are new to the program, stop in and register at the Posse office (across from Kuentz Rec Center) or go online to the Posse website, click on the vacation watch tab and fill out the required forms. The Posse wishes everyone a safe and happy summer!
Volunteer for a RCSCW committee
Interested in serving the Sun City West community? Consider volunteering on a Rec Centers' Standing Committee or short-term special committee. Committees recommend policy changes, analyze problems and review operations as required to support the Governing Board's oversight responsibilities.

PEMF demo at Kuentz Recreation Center
Ashley Keyworth from Reflective Enterprises will be holding a demo on pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) sessions from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, April 26, at the Kuentz treatment room. 15 minute sessions will be offered for $10 on a first come, first serve basis. She will also be happy to answer questions, explain what PEMF is and the benefits associated with it.
RCSCW Governing Board regular meeting this Thursday at 9 a.m.
Sun City West residents are invited to attend the Governing Board's regular meeting at 9 a.m. Thursday, April 22 in the Social Hall. For those who wish to watch from home, the meeting will be livestreamed on the SCW YouTube channel.

As a reminder, RCSCW Board President George Kuchtyak holds office hours from 9 to 11 a.m. Mondays. Appointments are encouraged and can be made by calling 623-544-6115. Please note, President office hours will not be held on June 21 and 28.

Star Wars movie marathon set for this summer
Relive one of the most famous movie franchises in history this summer as the Recreation Centers of Sun City West will be having a Star Wars movie marathon this June and July! 
All movies will be shown in their chronological order of events so you can follow along with the entire story of the Star Wars franchise. A raffle for Star Wars prizes will also be held at the end of July for those that participate in this marathon.
Tickets are free and grant you access to the entire marathon. They are available to SCW residents only and can be picked up starting Tuesday, May 4, at the R.H. Johnson Box Office.

April Concert in the Park
It's been quite a while since the last time there was a live musical performance for SCW but we're happy to announce the return of our Concert in the Park event this month! SCW favorite Faded Jeans will be performing at 7 p.m. Friday, April 23, at Beardsley Park.
Tickets will be $5 per person and are on sale now at the R.H. Johnson Box Office. Only SCW residents can purchase tickets. Limit two per household.

Update: Tickets for "News of the World" and "War with Grandpa" are sold out
Movies are back at Beardsley Park this April with an expanded lineup! Beginning Thursday, April 8, a new movie will be played every week for the month of April. A limited amount of tickets will be made available for each movie. Tickets are for SCW residents only and will be limited to two per household.

The R.H. Johnson Library is happy to announce their first "Chat with the Local Author" event in well over a year. Stop by the library from 10 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, May 4, to chat with three new local authors.

Library volunteers needed
The R.H. Johnson Library is offering an opportunity for library enthusiasts to serve their community by becoming a volunteer. 
Volunteers comprise an important part of the library’s operations and perform a variety of duties. Whether you are employed or retired, you will be a welcomed addition to the R.H. Johnson library team.
There are volunteer opportunities throughout the library system, although there may not be vacancies for all positions at any given time. The library is seeking book sorters, circulation volunteers, instructors, monitors and shelf readers.
Volunteers must be willing to commit to a regular schedule of 3 1/2 hours per week. A.m. shifts are from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and afternoon shifts are from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
All volunteers must have a valid rec card. If interested in these opportunities, please ask for an application at the circulation desk.

R.H. Johnson Library updates
Patrons of the library, please be aware of the following updates.
Holds
  • As the library moves towards normal services, they have changed back to only putting holds on items not currently available in the library.
Overdue library materials
  • Starting April 6, the library has started issuing fines for overdue materials again.
Library is open
  • Guests are welcome and activities such as scrabble, chess and puzzles can be played in the library. All computers in the DRC and Information Center are available. Study rooms can be requested in the DRC. Appointments for Virtual Reality can also be made in the DRC or by calling 623-544-6644. One-on-one help with iPhones and iPads can be booked in the DRC too.
Virtual reality available at the R.H. Johnson Library
Virtual Reality is back! It is an opportunity to do some of the things we haven’t been able to do for over a year. You can take a trip to Rome or London, explore a coral reef and watch the manta rays and a smack of jelly fish or other interesting sea creatures. Perhaps you’ve always wanted to fly with the Blue Angels or ride the roller Coaster at Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany. Drive a Formula 1 race car? These adventures and much more are available at the virtual reality sessions at the R.H. Johnson Library right here in Sun City West. 
No Passport required! Best of all, it is free to residents!
The R.H. Johnson library presents Virtual Reality twice daily on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.  A maximum of four seats are available at each session and guests 18 years of age or older are welcome when accompanied by a Rec Card holder.  
To sign up for a session, visit the Data Resource Center or call the library at 623-544-6644. 
Tech help
The R.H. Johnson Library is offering one-on-one training for patrons who need help with their smartphones, tablets or computers. This includes iPhones, iPads, Android phones and tablets as well as with laptop computers. Instruction is by appointment only and is done in one-hour segments, but you are free to schedule as many appointments as you need. The times that are available are scheduled based on the availability of the library's instructors.

Johnson Lanes closure
The bowling alley will be closing Monday, April 26, for three weeks as system upgrades are made. The current plan is to re-open on Monday, May 17. The Sports Pavilion April calendar with current operating hours and upcoming events is available here.  If you have any questions, please give the Sports Pavilion a call at 623-544-6140.
George Cross celebration tournament
The Sports Pavilion will be hosting the George Cross celebration tournament at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 22. The format will be Handicap Singles/Three Games. Entry fee is $20 per person.

Summer Wii bowling

Sunday open bowling special
Hurry on in to enjoy the Sunday Special from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. This special is only running for two more weeks; April 18 and 25. Residents can bowl for $2 per game. Non-Residents can bowl for $2.40 per game. Shoe rental is available for $1.75.
VIP Cards on sale April 1
The VIP Card program is back. Cost of the VIP card is $35 and entitles the cardholder to bowl an unlimited number of games at the price of $1.30 per game from May 1 through Sept. 31.

Golf Lab fitting events and trade-ins
