Freshman golfer Jennifer Koga is making a quick name for herself as a top competitor at Sac State, having been awarded "Freshman of the Year" as well as "Player of the Year" by Big Sky Conference in their announcement made on Friday. Koga is the third woman to be given both titles in the same season, another being fellow teammate Tess Blair. If Koga maintains her scoring average this season, she will be on track to break Sac State's all-time single-season record, which was also set by Blair last year, according to Sac State Athletics

Though Koga was initially unsure of how she would rank among her teammates due to her unique playing style, her performance in the first season of her college career has proven that she is able to harness her talents to achieve great accolades.

"I was just able to walk on to these tournaments with the utmost confidence that I could produce a good score, and even if I’m not the longest hitter I can still get low scores,” Koga said in a profile with The State Hornet.
