And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.
2Cor 9:8

This is our last week in Honduras!

We are definitely into "crunch time" as we continue to pack, say our 'goodbyes,' and get ready for our flight on Sunday, April 25.

Honduras has a very sweet custom of "despedida" or farewell parties. Everybody wants to get together to say goodbye... and maybe get together again!  While everyone says they'll do social distancing and face masks, nobody actually wants to say goodbye standing six feet apart or wearing a mask.  So, we turn this over to the Lord for His protection.

We have been extremely blessed, over and over, by people sharing how they have been personally blessed by the Lord through the Lord's ministry here!  This should be a great blessing to you knowing that individuals and whole churches have grown spiritually, have been challenged, have become more committed to God and His Word because of the ministry you have supported faithfully.

As we say our goodbyes it is very encouraging to see the excitement as we explain that we will still be with Equip and plan on returning in the future, hopefully with small teams.  Through the years we have constantly purposed in loving the people and in this time of goodbyes the love between us is evident and sweet.

"Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another."  1John 4:7-21

Tablets to Baptisms!

When the schools were closed in 2020 the youth in the CFI program wanted to keep learning, and the Lord gave me and Carlos a plan to make this happen.  We purchased 10 tablets for the students to share in small groups meeting in homes.  The lessons would be given on a memory card taken around by Carlos each week.

As a result of these tablets, CFI was the only school program in the district of La Paz to actually complete the school year.  Also, Christian media, like The Bible Project, was included and made part of their writing assignments.

One measure of the success of the program is that this year the registration of new students has doubled.  This is exciting and comes with the need for more tablets.  Our home church in Maryland met this need enabling the purchase of 12 more tablets! Praise the Lord!

Of these youths in the CFI program only two profess to be Christians.  This has been an exciting opportunity for us to share and love on the students in the hope that some would be saved... and now that has happed!

"To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some."  1Cor 9:22

Tablets to Baptisms (continued)

Just two weeks ago three of the CFI students were baptized after making a public confession of accepting Christ!

We have been working alongside the CFI program for several years doing crafts, having talks about Scripture, challenging them to accept Christ. At the beginning of this year no one had made a profession of Christ... until now!

Do we think the tablets were the key to them accepting Christ?  NO!  The Holy Spirit is the key! Thank you for your faithful prayerful intercession. The tablets are a minor part of a greater whole with the inner core, the outer edge, and the filling in between being God!

Rejoice with us over these new brothers in Christ!

"Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned." Mark 16:16

Homeward Bound:

Getting ready to leave has meant emptying a house of 'stuff'.  We have sold somethings, given away many things to bless our friends here, and moved a bunch of stuff up to the training center to supply the kitchen for future use.

Prayer Corner

  • Please pray for the Lord to fully restore my, Matt's, health.
  • Please pray for all of the logistics that need to be completed in transitioning and closing 10 years of ministry and all our household items.
  • Please pray for us to be able to balance between work and rest during this time.
  • Please pray that we will be able to embrace this awkward time of transition and to celebrate what God has done and is doing.
  • Please pray for us to be able to leave well during this time of the pandemic.
  • Please unite with us in prayer that the Lord will end the pandemic and restore the people.
  • Please pray together for world leaders everywhere to act for the good of the people.

Team Honduras!!

Team Honduras is God working through you and us!
The current health crisis is also very much an economic crisis.  This is causing change and hardship on many fronts and we already know that this has affected some of you.  We are so grateful for the support we have received and look to the Lord for our future needs and pray for Him to meet your needs as well.

Teach me your way, O LORD,
that I may walk in your truth;
unite my heart to fear your name.

I give thanks to you, O Lord my God,
with my whole heart,
and I will glorify your name forever.
Psalm 86:11, 12
