Apr 2021 April 18-24 is National Volunteer Week! We celebrate and thank the 126,000+ volunteer firefighters in Canada for answering the call and always being there for their communities when we need them. We also recognize the men and women in the fire service who help FIREWELL create new knowledge by volunteering to participate in our research studies. Your contributions to science make a difference!
This issue shares recent media coverage on FIREWELL research, as well as Fire Service Women Ontario's study on the gendered experiences of Ontario firefighters. We highlight a new FIREWELL publication that provided a pooled estimate of the physiological demands of simulated firefighting tasks among Canadian firefighters.
We also feature new publications and webinars by other scientists: body composition measures and fitness; a new screening measure for stress; head injuries and mental health; toxic exposures in wildland firefighters; virtual skin cancer screening; COVID-19.
Thank you for reading and stay safe!
