Thoughts from ARM Chapter 3 President, Lee Ferguson
Another school year is almost over. What a year it has been with this darn pandemic! We were able to have a few Zoom events – enough that we got used to using Zoom. We hope you have enjoyed the black OSSTF masks we delivered or sent to you.
Our Executive is looking forward to in-person events like our monthly breakfasts at various local eateries, luncheons at the D3 office, a welcome to new retirees bbq, a golf morning, visits to the Sudbury Theatre Centre and special movie concerts on the big screen at Silver City, a curling bonspiel and a board games afternoon. We pay a portion of the cost to most of our events whenever a cost is involved.
We will have speakers of interest to us such as: travel ideas, keeping healthy, enjoyment and responsibilities with our grandchildren, downsizing our homes, election readiness for the June election, housing ideas for the elderly (avoiding LTC homes). We are also open to your suggestions. We are retired and have lots of flexibility! Do join us – we are very welcoming.
There are regular information bulletins from the Provincial OSSTF office to keep in touch with what is happening in education today. Let us know if you want to get on the list for these regular bulletins, by sending a message to <armd3osstf@gmail.com>
If you are ever out in the Lively area – specifically near 9th Av. where the District 3 office is, you might want to look up the fabulous Memory Garden at the side of the building. What a job that ARM garden group did this year – with masks and physical distancing. Pictures hardly do it justice. We set this garden up 3 or 4 years ago in memory of our colleagues who have passed away. The Memory Book is inside the office and available to you to write up your remembrances of your colleagues.
We have lawn signs “I love Laurentian University -Fund LU”. If you want one of these to show your support, call Lee at 705 675-1617 or email <lferguson@isys.ca> and we can get one to you. I think there are a lot of retired Rainbow Education workers who attended Laurentian U.
Keep safe over the summer and looking forward to seeing you in person in the Fall.
We wish you the best for a healthy and happy retirement. You’ve earned it! We welcome you to join us as a member of ARM Chapter 3. See the footer of this newsletter for information on how to join. It’s easy and it’s free until January 2022!
ARM Chapter 3 Shenanigans
What have our members been up to lately?
Volunteers from ARM Chapter 3 gathered at Sudbury’s Kivi Park to plant 500 red and jack pine seedlings on June 6th, 2021. The initiative was part of the “Grow With Kivi” tree-planting project. It was hot and “buggy”, but well worth our time and effort. When you’re hiking the trails in beautiful Kivi Park, watch for our ARM Chapter 3 sign! Lynne’s COVID-19 Craft
One of the things I was most looking forward to when I retired was to restart "crafting". Little did I know that a lockdown during a pandemic would give me all the time in the world to do so. I started crocheting this blanket during the first days of the pandemic by using all the scrap yarn I had - to make room for more, lol - and I think it turned out quite nice!
