Running a small business requires a diverse skill set to be successful. Keeping up with everything from marketing and inventory to sales and finances can be a tough job. In this virtual workshop, the experts from C&F Bank will cover the basics of financial literacy to help you keep your business moving ahead.

Do you understand cash flow and how money moves in and out of your business? We will discuss the ability to manage business finance matters in an efficient manner, making appropriate decisions about investing, and budgeting. To get your small business to the next level you must be able to read and understand the numbers on your financial statement. Know what your numbers are telling you and be proactive to the areas that require attention.

Natalee Bolton, C&F Financial Center Manager, and Yitzy Klestzick, Assistant Vice President, will talk us through understanding key financial principles including:
  • Understanding credit
  • Importance of keeping good books/records (the why behind it in regards to lending)
  • Banking products that will benefit your business
We will then hear from Michael Reilly, Executive Director of Foodshed Capital to learn about the concept of “Nurture Capital.” Foodshed Capital is an organization with a mission to provide financial stewardship to farms and businesses fostering an equitable and regenerative local food economy. This is achieved through patient, flexible, low-cost financing, including a 0% revolving loan fund called SOIL. This financing provides equitable, patient, and risk-tolerant capital for farmers and food entrepreneurs who have difficulty obtaining traditional capital, especially women, people of color, low-income individuals, and new/beginning farmers.
