Here's the Windup...
With temperatures warming up, Downtown activity is following suit!  In light of Governor Cooper's recent relaxing of some Covid restrictions and a hint that they may soon be relaxed further, we're beginning to see signs of a return to (some semblance of) normal.  Several new businesses have opened in the past few weeks, with another scheduled to go live June 1.  Outdoor live music is on the horizon along with other outdoor events and activities from the Time Before Covid, including the official kickoff on May 8 of the return of City Market at the Museum.  And, of course, the Woodpeckers are back at Segra for their first home game on May 11.

DTA staff and several members recently attended a Zoom meeting coordinated by the City of Fayetteville and Cool Spring Downtown District.  During this highly informative session we were brought up to speed on upcoming roadwork, parking issues, the resumption of issuance of special event permits for limited crowds, and the availability of loans and grants.  You should have received a blast email from us last Friday with attachments detailing the subjects addressed in the meeting.  For those who missed it, here's a quick recap:
  • On-street parking kiosks will go live on July 1 with "soft enforcement" (no fines) during the initial rollout period.
  • Event parking rates in City-owned lots and the Franklin Street deck will resume in conjunction with the Woodpeckers' first home game on 5/11.
  • The 400 block of Hay Street will be closed and traffic detoured between May 17 - 28 for a lane reduction project.
  • PWC projects on Maiden Lane will continue through the end of July, at which time it will be resurfaced.
  • Cool Spring Downtown District's concierge program has received a green light (AKA startup funding) from the City.  The plan is to hire traditionally difficult to hire individuals and the program will start in the "very near future."
