Types of Semi Truck Accidents (And Ways to Stay Safe)

The U.S. has nearly 4 million Class 8 trucks currently in operation on the roads. Semi-trucks make up most of the vehicles in this class, with the remainder being service vehicles like dump trucks and fire trucks.

These semi-trucks are involved in many truck accidents each year, causing over 4,000 deaths and over 100,000 injuries annually.

Unfortunately, these deaths and injuries disproportionately involve the occupants of passenger vehicles. The large mass of a semi-truck often protects truck drivers but crushes smaller automobiles. As a result, 97% of those hurt or killed in truck accidents are motorists, motorcyclists, bicyclists, and pedestrians.

CAUSES OF SEMI-TRUCK ACCIDENTS

Factors that can lead to semi-truck accidents include road conditions, poor equipment maintenance, traffic, and driver behavior.

Some of the most common causes of semi-truck accidents include:

TIRE BLOWOUTS

Tire blowouts cause approximately 30% of truck accidents, making it the most common cause of truck accidents.

Over 100 Five-Star Reviews

"I met Jason and Tracy while looking for Legal Representation. If it wasn't for the excellent attention to detail provided by Tracy and Jason, the outcome would not have been as great as it was. This Firm also provided the empathy and understanding I needed while recovering by checking in on me as "Part of the Family," no just as my Attorney."

Fighting — and Winning — for Our Clients

Confidential Settlement in 18-Wheeler Fatality

We secured a confidential settlement when our client's loved one was tragically killed in an 18 wheeler crash.  The driver of the 18 wheeler was being pushed by the trucking company to complete his run as fast as possible and so the driver decided to pass another 18 wheeler in a no-passing zone on a curve hitting our client's loved one head-on.  The trucking company sent a “Rapid Response Team” to the scene to try to influence and skew the investigation. The driver then lied about how the collision occurred and the company tried to hide a key witness.  But, by knowing where and how to dig for the information, Jason Stephens and his firm were able to retrieve extensive data from the truck and its electronic devices that recreated what really happened exposing the driver and trucking company’s attempted coverup and their negligence in causing the crash.  At Stephens Law, we have the knowledge, experience, and dedication to expose the truth and to achieve the justice our clients deserve.

Our After Hours Recommendation

Jason's Book Rec: Modoc – The True Story of The Greatest Elephant That Ever Lived.  It’s a wonderful story about a boy and an elephant. One of the most powerful parts of the book can be found in Chapter 3. It was a heartfelt description of how the said spiritual bond between man and animal was ignited. Click here to check it out!
