Recognizing Excellence: 7 Reads

🏅 One Small Step, One Giant Leap, Spirit of Georgia Tech
Sciences staff and faculty who are leading the Institute's Covid-19 response, a key School of Biological Sciences academic support specialist, and a team of cybersecurity pros are the winners of three annual awards presented by Georgia Tech Human Resources. 

🦠 Biological Sciences and Chemistry Receive Trio of Institute Research Awards
The College of Sciences-led team that developed the Covid-19 testing program for Georgia Tech — along with School of Chemistry faculty who are leading a new diversity initiative and in excellence in teaching — are honored with Institute Research Awards for 2020-2021.

👩🏻‍🏫 CTL Honors College of Sciences Faculty with Annual Teaching Awards
Seven faculty members from five schools in the College are among those honored with annual awards that celebrate innovation in teaching from Tech's Center for Teaching and Learning.

👨🏽‍🏫 40 College of Sciences Faculty Recognized by Students
Instead of grades from faculty, it's evaluations from the students that make up the Class of 1934 Awards and Honor Roll from the Center for Teaching and Learning. More than three dozen College faculty are among those receiving honors and accolades.

📉 Covid-19 Risk at Events, Hidden Symmetries in Origami Capture Sigma Xi Honors
Professors in the School of Biological Sciences and the School of Physics land top annual paper honors from the Georgia Tech chapter of Sigma Xi scientific research society.

📚 Psychology Honors Exceptional Student, Best Paper, Instructors
Eight School of Psychology graduate students and early career scientists are recognized for stellar classroom, teaching, and research achievements in 2020-2021.

🥰 Women of Georgia Tech: L.O.V.E. Campaign Nominees
The Women of Georgia Tech Employee Resource Group recently honored 52 women from across the Institute who were nominated by colleagues as part of the “Living Our Values Every Day” (L.O.V.E. GT) campaign — including several College of Sciences staff and scientists.

Research Spotlight

Itch sensations that strike the palms of the hands and soles of the feet can be the source of lasting discomfort for many. But a new study from researchers in the School of Biological Sciences and Petit Institute may bring eventual relief, thanks to findings that narrow down unique skin receptors that respond to those itches.

Finish the semester strong by taking a few minutes to get your weekly test, and continuing to mask and distance, even if you’re fully vaccinated. Free cookies in the morning, King of Pops in the afternoon continue at all main sites.

Vaccine Appointments Available on Campus

Covid-19 vaccines are available to all Georgia residents 16 years of age and older, and Georgia Tech’s vaccine clinics continue to host free appointments for all students, faculty, and staff. Appointments can be booked at mytest.gatech.edu.
