Virtual AGM Notice
The Film and Video Arts Society of Alberta’s Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting of the Society will be held virtually via Zoom on Wednesday April 28th, 2021. Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions by Alberta Health Services we will be hosting the meeting virtually. We ask that you register in advance to attend the AGM to ensure we will have quorum. Registration button can be found below. 
 
Four Board of Directors positions are up for (re)election:
i.    Vice-President
ii.   Communications Chair
iii.  Film Chair 
iv.  Exhibition
 Chair

Board Members are elected for a two-year term and are expected to attend regular meetings of the Board (typically monthly, with a minimum of one meeting every three months).

Producing Lecture: Location Permitting | Starts April. 29th


A few spots still available so register TODAY!

FAVA Members - $5, Non-Members $10
 
Join us as we demystify the process of obtaining shooting permits. In this 90 minute lecture, participants will learn:
  • The benefits of permitting
  • What information is needed for a permit application
  • Insurance requirements and how to meet them
  • Two methods of finding a location and how to secure them
  • How to utilize the ESIO and City of Edmonton Filming Liaison
Samantha Quantz is the Locations Officer at the Edmonton Screen Industries Office. She has over 7 years experience in locations and production management. She is a FAVA producer member, serves as the Edmonton member-at-large on the Alberta District Council for the DGC and as a board director for Women In Film and Television AB. She has taught production and location courses with the ESIO, DGC and Justice4Reel Film School program.

FAVA Equipment Rentals are still available to members at this time. However, we request that members make an appointment to schedule pick-up and drop-off of equipment to help us control and track the number of people visiting the depot. FAVA Studios are currently available for booking. However, COVID restrictions and protocols are still in place for all FAVA studios and the Orange Hub. If you have any questions please contact studios@fava.ca

10th annual RBC® $10,000 Emerging Filmmaker Pitch Competition

Impact Mentorship: For Documentaries in Development by Underrepresented Creators
Story Money Impact (SMI) is offering impact coaching hours to three Canadian documentary films (25–90 mins in length) by underrepresented creators that are in the development phases of their projects. Deadline: If you are interested in this opportunity, please apply by April 25th 2021, at 11:59PM. Alberta Culture Days 2021 Grant Application
Communities and organizations can apply for the Alberta Culture Days grant to help build partnerships, encourage local talent, and boost existing cultural programs. The Edmonton Jewish Film Festival (EJFF)
The Jewish Federation of Edmonton is pleased to bring the Edmonton Jewish Film Festival to homes throughout Edmonton this year. From May 2 to May 11, outstanding Jewish-themed films, shorts and engaging Zoom lectures will be offered free of charge to our viewers. Proceeds from the festival will support the Jewish Federation of Edmonton’s COVID relief fund, providing food aid and financial relief to Jewish community members and Jewish organizations hard-hit by the pandemic. Call for Contributors: SNAPline Flash Fiction Contest
SNAPline invites you to submit a story of 500 or fewer words to our 2021 Flash Fiction Contest, with the winner and runner-up to be published this summer in the 2021.2 issue.
