  1. OAWA Announces COVID Relief funding for member-clubs.

The OAWA is pleased to announce that we have received funding from the Government of Ontario for COVID Relief.  Details of the funding and how OAWA will allocate the funds is as follows.

Provincial Government – Funding to Community Sport Clubs

The funding is to be used by towards supporting community sport clubs that are members of the OAWA.

The Government of Ontario recognizes that Community sport clubs that are members of a PSO offer programming that supports alignment within the amateur sport system by offering a range of grassroots and competitive programming. This funding will support community sport clubs across the province in sustaining their organizations and prepare for when sport is able to return safely.

At their April 17, 2021 meeting, the OAWA Board of Directors agreed to distribute the funding to Wrestling Clubs using the following criteria.:

To be eligible, Club must have their coaches’ memberships for 2021 renewed by May 30, 2021.  Remember, this is FREE for all coaches who were registered in 2020 – go to the OAWA Web Site Membership link to register.

  1. Base level of support to all clubs.  To be eligible, the Club must meet the minimum standards to be an OAWA Active Club.  Thus, all clubs eligible to vote at an OAWA AGM will be eligible to receive funding, Associate Clubs will not. All eligible Clubs, including the Ontario Amateur Wrestling Officials’ Association) will receive $250.00.  Note, as per prior information from OAWA clubs who have attained Active Club status since the last AGM will be eligible.
  2. Added support for clubs with more members:  Each Club will receive $20/member registered in 2020
  3. Added support for clubs who have received their COVID-19 Return to Training approval and have been operating.   Clubs who have received COVID Clearance and have been operating prior to the current shutdown will receive an added $500.00. To be eligible, the club will be asked to confirm they have conducted training in addition to being approved.
OAWA will begin processing payments to clubs approximately June 1, 2021 so clubs are asked to complete their Coach registrations to ensure that all coaches are registered and receiving OAWA regular communications.  Other than getting your coaches' memberships up to date, you do not have to apply for this funding.  We will contact you if we need any information from you.
